But can her stans stop pretending this is some experimental psychedelic massive-departure from her previous sound era Literally. Why are we acting like this album is in an entirely different vein that FN? It's very similar. Euro 80s pop is Dua's signature. The songs so far have been good and they would've fit into FN easily

Kern Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Damn this is really not great I really wanted to love this era, I thought the first 2 singles were maybe just different from the rest of the album but 3 songs that are not giving means the rest of the album won't be any better 2 1
mike_int Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Im sure "Illusion" will deliver, there will be interesting element just like there was in TS and Houdini
Lady Claire Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Sounds like a Hallucinate demo. This era is so confusing cause the songs doesn't match the album aesthetic, the title and there's no departure from her previous sound - and there's nothing wrong with that but i feel like she thinks she's doing something else
metalheart Posted April 4 Posted April 4 is this a 90s uk rave-culture inspired record paying tributes to the likes of moby, massive attack and primal scream or not? the people need to know, dua 1 2
Popular Post DUA LIPA Posted April 4 Popular Post Posted April 4 Houdini does NOT sound like it belongs on FN. like how is that a thing some of you think? it's like saying bad romance would fit on the the fame or born this way which – yes you can say that if you think just because something is "dark synth pop" it all sounds the same, but there's clear differences to the sound of each of the three albums. the same way houdini is serving pop bop with vintage (let's say psychedelic) inspiration, but just because of that, it doesn't sound like it would fit right next to don't start now, levitating and physical. 14 3
ariananext Posted April 4 Posted April 4 I loved Houdini and Training Season but this snippet isn't giving for me, I'll wait for the full song to judge though
GuyNextDoor Posted April 4 Posted April 4 (edited) This sounds like one of those generic songs you would hear from Ava Max or that kind of artists Dua, we need an album of Houdinis Edited April 4 by GuyNextDoor 1 1
Relampago. Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Illusion is the first song I could see fitting on FN but that's pretty much only because Hallucinate exists and admittedly that song is pretty different from the rest of FN anyways lol 2
Timeless Posted April 4 Posted April 4 It's very Calvin Harris vibes so I love it already. But I agree with everyone that so far this album is not a departure from the FN sound which is fine but her stans need to stop saying that this is psychedelic music because it's not. 3
Anomaly Posted April 4 Posted April 4 (edited) This sounds alright. I wish Houdini did better commercially as I really like it. Dare I say it might be time to throw Dance the Night into the tracklist to save the era. Edited April 4 by Anomaly 1

iconicyayo Posted April 4 Posted April 4 sounds like a lesser version of hallucinate but still a bop. i am just confused by the album aesthetic, sound and thread-line not matching at all. future nostalgia was such a clear concept and world, everything about this era is incoherent besides the £10 budget mvs
KatyPrismSpirit Posted April 4 Posted April 4 with all said tho, i actually like the snippet. even considering its not necessarily what i expected. hopefully the album tracks are really giving that tame impala dreamscape sound that i've been craving from her ever since she teased this album. 1

LanaXtinaFan Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Yeah im checking out. This entire era has been one disappoint after another. Shes back to indie pop level. MPG my ***. 3 2 2
Shinning Posted April 4 Posted April 4 This doesn't sound as cool as Houdini/Training Season but hey. I'll be streaming.

EliteNaviShit Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Out of the 3 singles Houdini is gonna be the one that stands out the most I feel like. Unless there's a twist on Illusion that we haven't heard yet. I've absolutely loved everything she's released so far and this one definitely will be my jam too, my only issue with this era is that she labeled it as psychedelic from the jump and everyone expected a huge departure from FN when in reality the psychedelic influence is pretty minimal so far. Hope we get to hear more of that in the album, I need more Tame Impala in there sonically. Kevin should've gone ALL OUT!!!

Wait til she attempts the US. Her presence here is non existent this era. Flop after flop. Quality of music and commercial performance… indie vibes. She doesn't even care to put in 10% of the effort she did for FN. AND… her team sucks. Bye. 2
EliteNaviShit Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Saying Houdini sounds like FN is crazy tho. As soon as I heard that beat drop I was like yeah that's Tame Impala right there. Sounds nothing like Dua made before. I just need more of THAT 3
Iris Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Looks like Kevin did the bare minimum on each track he co-produced but minimalism seems to be one of the main themes of this era. Just lower your expectations and enjoy the bops 3

I dont care about US market, I care about quality music and based on whats topping US charts for last decade "quality" is not the term to describe it 3 1 1
