I'm surprised at the reason, does she mean they offered her too small of a role or too little money? I definitely think the franchise can survive without her (Gale and Kirby should be enough to bring the old fans back) but I wish she was leaving on better terms :dancehall:

I mean there were rumors that she was only gonna be a cameo so her role in the movie couldn't have been that important, but yeah it sucks that they didn't offer her more money

“As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream.”

I love Neve, great statement.

I think this decision will turn out to be the decisive factor on the movie's quality and it'll either be an amazing or terrible thing for the franchise depending on the story, no middle ground. I know a lot of people supported Scream 5 because the legacy characters returned. I'm not gonna lie I'm mostly rooting/excited for Hayden's acting return, and I hope this new sequel enables Scream's future of course, but I'm kinda afraid they'll **** up her character and they haven't learned the new characters' strengths because it was quite a short turn around for the new script :skull:

Omf... they and iT are slightly OVER, not the drag+announcement before they could (or chose) to say anything

last chance is it's a marketing tactic and she appears at the end of the movie to get everyone hyped for 7 where is the biggest focus

Though I don't really mind Sidney sitting this one out, it seems like the decision wasn't mutual - which makes me sad. I hope there is no bad blood and we get to see her return in Scream 7.

This is a good thing I think.

It's shocking they couldn't pay her well/what she wanted considering 5's success, maybe she hated the script/what they did with her and this is an excuse so she can not talk **** about 6 before it's out

Legend Amber Freeman said it best, your story’s OVER. Goodbye Sidney

In all seriousness though, there’s really nowhere for Sidney to still be in this franchise unless they come for her or her kids, which would traumatize and regress her character. I love Sidney and she’s my #1 final girl in all of horror period by a huge margin but I also love Scream as a franchise and both Scream the movies and Sidney the character are better going forward this way.

I agree. Sidney has been through so much. I’m content with where they leave her character at the end of Scream 5. It’s a good passing of the torch moment to the next final girl.

I think she was unhappy with the script. She alluded to that in the fan interaction. I'm sure she would have compromised if she felt it was worth returning, but she must not be very pivotal to the plot and felt they were only paying her as a cameo, when she's ultimately the star of the franchise.

I'm ok with not having Sydney in the movie, but I just really hope they worked on the shortcomings of the S5 script.

It’s good for now. I do hope she comes back in the future. It will be interesting to see how the movie does without her though.

Wes probably wouldn’t have done it without her.

I think so too... but even if she was just a cameo I'm sure they could have sorted it out in an eye to eye conversation with radio silence explaining their plan/vision for the movie and the next one potentially, it doesn't look good on them, they'll have to speak up soon.

Lowkey hope Courteney quits in support of Neve so they'll have to get this sorted :fan:

Filming starts today and Courtney already signed on the project, there's no way she will just dip because of this. And she said she read the script and loved it so maybe Radio Silence is finally giving Gale her so deserved main status on this one (which I'm not mad at all, her role in 4 and 5 felt very minimal) :WAP:

The fact we're finally getting our "Hello Gale" from Ghostface after five movies :WAP:

is the older sister coming back bc that girl couldn't act to save her life and the younger one was super annoying :rip: maybe the next one will be better than the disaster that was 5

This will flop without Neve Campbell… even if her role in Scream 5 was little she is like Jamie Lee Curtis for Halloween.

Scream 6 will flop and that will be officially the end of the Scream franchise.

I feel like this franchise is constantly fighting an uphill battle. Scream 2's script leaks, Scream 3 having to be made in the aftermath of Columbine, Scream 4 coming back from a ten year hiatus to a genre that was in the pits, and 5 being the first film made without Wes/having to introduce a new young cast that could at least attempt to hold a candle to the legacy characters, and yet every time... the franchise wins (sans 3 getting panned and 4's box office the latter of which smashed in my heart). And now, just when things are going well (5 got critical praise, opened at #1 at the box office, Hayden coming back, and a quick turnaround time a la Scream 2) we have to deal with this :toofunny2: I still have faith they can pull off a great film I just don't know how the fandom is going to react

Same general thoughts as everyone. Glad the character Sidney is getting to chill for at least one movie but sucks they tried to short Neve. It will be good and force them to come up with better characters I guess tho. Cause most of 5’s characters did nothing for me (obvi not you queen Tara)

Kind of a double edged sword tho. If 6 does financially well and commercially well without Sidney then we can almost kiss that character goodbye without a proper send off :sosad:

Multiple people are reporting it. She either feels slighted by the script/negotiations or wants to put pressure on execs.

People seem to be okay with it, but for me Sidney has always been as, if not more, important than ghostface to the series. I think the box office will reflect that :michael:

^^ I knew it was about salary and honestly **** paramount/cbs for constantly undervaluing their stars. This woman has held the franchise on her back for over 25 years and she’s worth every cent she was asking for.

She’s spoken about how Weinstein’s ****** her over with back end deals and here we are 25 years later and she’s getting the shaft again. But hey, they sent her an “eMoTIonAl leTter” and want to “hoNor wEs.” **** that.  I don’t blame her for walking.

I’m gonna wait for the 123movies version  this time.
