This will flop without Neve Campbell… even if her role in Scream 5 was little she is like Jamie Lee Curtis for Halloween.

Scream 6 will flop and that will be officially the end of the Scream franchise.

ghostface did say in scream 5 that sidney’s “in every movie but the last one” so this might ring true :jonny:

Scream 5 felt like Scream for the TikTok generation… I don’t blame Neve for not coming back, I’m not gonna rush out to see this one either

The movie will still be succesful. 5 introduced the series to an entire new generation, who with all due respect, aren't emotionally invested in Nev enough for them to sit this one out

The star of this series is Jenna Ortega to the new generation.

If it was just for storyline purposes I would be all for it but this sounds permanent which isn't good for the franchise imo. Neve is a major draw for the franchise, they even had to market her (and the rest of the trio) as main characters and suspects in order for this last one to be successful. I think they're making a huge mistake.

I remember reading an article over 10 years ago (around the time Scream 4 was premiering) and the writer mentioned how the Scream franchise stands out in the horror universe due to how the story doesn't revolve around the slasher ala Jason or Michael Myers but around the heroine, Sidney Prescott.

I'm honestly not tryna be all doom and gloom about the situation. I'm sure the writers have a treat planned for us and I'm happy for Kirby's return but Sidney not returning just doesn't feel right and I'm quite sure Wes woulda never stood for this. I'll catch this on streaming :michael:

No Neve, no success!

Reminder that the rumors are that Neve would’ve been in one scene as a cameo and that nothing of importance will be lost story wise. I could understand this reception if the script heavily featured her but that was never going to be the case.

Yes, Scream without Sidney will be weird, but it’s time to move on and let her live in peace. The fifth movie perfectly set up these new characters, plus we get Kirby and Gale too.

Maybe I’m just not surprised by her not coming back but the fan reception has been quite melodramatic and over the top imo. Let’s see how the film is before we claim “NO SCREAM WITHOUT SIDNEY” when she barely was involved in the fifth one and it worked out fine. Not to mention that her send off in that movie was perfect.

^^ I knew it was about salary and honestly **** paramount/cbs for constantly undervaluing their stars. This woman has held the franchise on her back for over 25 years and she’s worth every cent she was asking for.

She’s spoken about how Weinstein’s ****** her over with back end deals and here we are 25 years later and she’s getting the shaft again. But hey, they sent her an “eMoTIonAl leTter” and want to “hoNor wEs.” **** that.  I don’t blame her for walking.

I’m gonna wait for the 123movies version  this time.

The directors sent her the letter. The directors don’t have any involvement in how much she’s paid, that would be Spyglass.

Is that supposed to be comforting? Just confirms the script is trash. They do not know her value at all, to Scream fans and the Scream franchise.

Why does this 90s horror franchise need to be passed down/made palatable to a “new generation”? Capitalism? :rip: Ageism? I just rewatched Feud and not that much has really changed since, older actresses are still just cast aside and have to be happy to accept whatever scraps they’re offered. Neve and Scream fans deserve so much more.

Y'all ready want them to come up with stale reasons for Sidney to be targeted forever? :rip:

You really want a random new batch of younger characters every few years? Just watch different movies :rip:

I guess it comes down to the difference in what fans love about Scream. For me, It's always been its fresh take on the slasher genre and the mystery of Ghostface/uncovering the motive. I adore the OG characters but they aren't what makes or breaks Scream for me. I'd rather see the franchise move away from the nostalgia filled Scream 5 and come up with new storylines, while still keeping the essential Scream feeling, but that's just me :coffee2:

I would personally wait to see the film to call the script trash but interesting stance! Neve had like 10 minutes of screen time in the last one and critics and fans mostly enjoyed it, so obviously there is a possibility these films can work without her. Not to mention the short part was most likely Neve’s condition to coming back, she is done with this character and I think the fans should follow suit. Let her live a peaceful live, I’m not sure why they want to see this woman be tortured and traumatized again and again and again.

I agree that they should’ve just paid her what she asked for, but the overreaction is a bit much.

Also your argument doesn’t fly. It’s not about making it palatable, it’s about letting this character go and not needlessly forcing her into every storyline, especially considering we have like… six other returning characters, including Gale who is older than Sidney. Not to mention how much of a success the Halloween reboots were and that had Jamie Lee in it.

If there is no Sydney, they might as well do a complete reboot.

Gale is literally in it, how do people keep forgetting her is beyond me ? we don’t even know the story yet, they could’ve come up with the most amazing concept for all we know. Hayden didn’t un-retire for nothing.

So they want her to do a little walk-on cameo so they can use her to sell this movie too?

It’s funny you mention Jamie Lee because I had this conversation, it’s not comparable at all screen time wise, she is given the respect she deserves from the Halloween franchise, I wish Scream did the same for Neve.

Reading is fundamental <3 as I said, it’s most likely that that was Neve’s request and condition. Also, her issue was NOT screen time but money, so being up in arms about it when she herself doesn’t have an issue with it, the person who plays the character, is kinda weird.

The word she used was “value”. That’s not necessarily monetary value

My problem isn't there being no Sidney, it's the way her exit is being handled off screen and the studio disrespecting Neve/clearly not valuing the character. It's kinda tainting the whole thing. And clearly the creative team wanted her to be a part of it too if she was still supposed to be featured regardless of how much screen time she'd get.

I do believe the support and enjoyment of the previous one also had a LOT to do with the return of the legacy characters, particularly Sidney, I mean the whole movie was pretty much marketed as a tribute to the franchise/Wes Craven. And once you remove those things out of the equation it opens up a lot more scrutiny as you could feel from several reviews.

So much for the creators "wanting to make Wes proud." They tried so hard with the last film when in reality it was just a rehash of Scream 4 and only bringing in the franchise's legacy character for the final 10 minutes.

But with the new storyline, I can see why Neve passed cause she can't really add anything to the new plot. Sidney can't keep following these kids to save them.

Speaking of the new plot, it's supposed to take place far away from Woodsboro in college. It seems a little far fetched that every one of them end up in the same town and probably the same school, especially Sam since she's in her late 20s. And how much you wanna bet that Kirby will be a professor or counselor at their university, just by coincidence?

The melodramatics in this thread. Lmao. S6 will be fine without Neve. If they decide to pay her what she wants, even better, but Neve has been ready to pass the torch.
