Dua Lipa - 'Radical Optimism'

Recommended Posts

Posted

A certain user in here has literally spent every day on this site complaining about Dua from before the era even started. Like we get it, you don't like the new music, you think she took too long after FN, you don't like her career decisions at the moment. BLAH BLAH BLAH. Like… :rip: Just unstan.

Anyways, I like the album but I wish she committed to making a more experimental album. The album lives in this weird in-between state where it's neither fully pop but also not as experimental as it was sold to be. I still like it, but it's frustrating knowing it could have been better.

So after like 14 listens of the album, heres my first impression:

End of an Era - 9.5/10

Houdini - 9/10

Training Season - 6/10

These Walls - 10/10

Watcha Doin - 9/10

French Exit - 6/10

Illusion - 4/10

Falling Forever - 7.5/10

Anything For Love - 8/10

Maria - 8.5/10

Happy For You - 7.5/10

10s are career highlights, 9s are very good Pop Songs and up their with her catchiest songs

And thats whats weird - u mean to tell me the same person that was just casually getting 1 Bio streamed songs last year pulls these numbers now (and she didn't have any controversy)??

Clearly the songs are not connecting even though the singles and These walls were given numver 1 spots on the playlists except training season.  Blame the songs and her daddy sucks clearly she has a yes team and tap management made her work her ass off to get to MPG girl status in the 2019 2020 FN era but daddy lets her take vacations evwry week when you have an album coming out.

I think the best would be if she perform two non-singles SNL.

We dont need to push H,TS and I anymore and it would be better if she showcase whats on the album.

"These Walls" has international appeal and is something different as what she released in long time

and

"Whatcha Doing" is very US friendly

They need to pick one single and fully focus on that, push it and perform

I think These Walls would indeed be a good contender

That would be lovely :gaycat4:

I feel like she's going to perform Illusion and These Walls though.

It was worse than I expected. These numbers are tragic...I really hope they start planning for DL3 and gets an actual management cause...

Get daddy out and stop taking so many vacations for christ sake work more on your craft and songs and promote everywhere to cement your name in the history books. She's 28 and flopping already on a 3 rd album. The third one was crucial to be a MPG. Atleast tap made her career soar with FN but the songs were good too.

These walls is being pushed as the next single me thinks.

wbk she's a GP artist. and even casual fans don't know this is out because of the terrible promotion.

Exactly what they should be doing everywhere. TW can become big because it sounds distinctly different from her other songs

Dua talked about leaving Tap in her interview with the Guardian:

Quote

In 2022, she walked away from Tap Management, the company that had launched her career. Her departure was linked to the size of the cut she received from recording and commercial deals negotiated on her behalf by Tap. According to her accounts, Lipa's net worth had more than doubled to almost £50m in 2021, up from £24.5m in 2020. At the time, she also had nearly £30m of assets in her touring company Dua Lipa Live LLP. She announced that Dukagjin would take over her management – though, Lipa being Lipa, you sense she will be the real boss.

Was leaving Tap another example of taking control? "It was definitely about taking control back. I really wanted to be more in the know about everything happening with me." I ask if it was a tough decision. "Like any decision with any relationship that you've been in for a long time, the conversation is never easy. But when you know it's for your best, then conversations need to be had, no matter how difficult they are." Did you feel you had been used by Tap? "I don't think that's something I'm comfortable talking about." When Lipa left Tap, she also bought back the rights to her music. "I just wanted everything to be under one umbrella. I want to be in control. I want to know how my music is being used. I want to be the sole decision maker on all of that."

The dumbest decision was to release a new single (a lackluster one btws) a month before the album and having no music video ready to go on release date :coffee2:

She will perform two songs on SNL thats why I chose TW and WD ;) from a commercial point it would be the best.

When Adele released 25 she performed different album tracks on different shows, I remember she sang Million Years on GMA or something, it was good to show whats on the album cause all 3 singles from RO doesnt reflect the rest of the track on it (sadly)

They were lazy and relied too much on her name alone, but that only works when you have the hits or a dedicated fanbase, neither is the case for Dua right now.

They got glasto booked and thought "that'll do" :suburban:

They know touring will bring them another 100+ millions next year plus she has huge brand campaign which brigs another 10s of millions, I think if Warner wanted they would push her everywhere, maybe they have different strategy

Hmm so after a few listens to the Album I am not very convinced by all of the new tracks. The Album is solid but the singles were better especially on the production side of things. In most case the singles had way more interesting instrumentals than the rest of the songs.  The songs are very ‚safe'. A bit more variety and risk would have been great. FN > RO

I completely agree, what she needs to dobis commit to the project and choose a single and push that to the best of her and her teams capabilities, doesn't matter how it performs just promote the project and focus on promoting the album with the tour in mind.

The worst things they can do is give up and accept the flop. I say they push a single maybe these walls and then maybe bring someone that can enhance Whatcha Doing like Bruno if they are able to book him or someone that can help carry that song artistically and commercially with a remix.

I would suggest after that and before the tour release a Side B ala Carly with some of the best outtakes. And of course during all that proceso think what DL4 is going to be, their strategy and start working on it!
