US Congress passes bill to ban TikTok, Biden signs into law

Feels like a brazen dishonesty to the American people to claim it is a security concern when the real goal is just to give said profits to a US company who'll listen to the US government in what videos go on people's feeds. One could say it's Biden attempting to rih the election if the US can then control the algorithm :celestial5:

this could take years

The original Republican-crafted legislation specified 6 months.

Right-wing Dems joined on if they bumped it to 12 months (ironically to delay the controversy to after the election).

Nothing will happen for over a year. By the time that comes TikTok might not even matter.

💀

Realistically when that times comes they will sell it and TikTok will be here to stay to die away like all those before it.

Goodbye Tik Tok. I learned so many things in such a short amount of time. Turned 10 years of personal development into 2 years.

So, government can be effective and quick to act but choose not to for important issues. :lakitu:

Yep. Tik Tok isn't lobbying and lining these hacks' pockets like these other giant corpos.

The NSA, CIA and FBI couldn't deal with the fact they aren't permitted a backdoor to monitor the data of millions of users globally.

ByteDance recorded revenue of $120 billion in 2023. The US accounted for $16B of that (13.3%). While the loss of American creators won't be good for the app, I really don't think they're going to be pushed into selling up. This is just going to piss off American citizens.

Maybe you should have. The amount of talented artists people have found and supported and given a platform to is astounding. It felt good not having to wonder about the next biggest untalented industry plant

TikTok has changed the world and opened the minds of millions of people. I hate to see this app go.

US is really Israel's lil *****.

All this bcoz the US-Israeli propaganda failed miserably on Tiktok and both have been exposed for their genocidal ways.
