Are the senate, and president going to agree as well, though? Politicians talking about banning TikTok, but nothing happens. It seems like political theater.

The senate will and then Biden will be pressured to sign it. If he didn’t the media and the republicans would say he isn’t tough on China 🤷

This is good. I still remember that story of TikTok spying on a British journalist through her cat's TikTok account :biblio:

the eu isn’t banning a social media used by half of the population which allow people to get organized and informed though? certain us products are banned in europe that doesn’t mean instagram and facebook are and should be banned no matter how bad they are

I have no clue what you’re debating or quoting me. When I repeatedly said that isn’t what I was referring to. As I stated that in my original comment.

This is honestly blatant sinophobia.

Imagine your government being more concerned your marketing data passed through a server in Shenzhen than if your family has enough money to put food on the table. :deadbanana4:

Then China should let American owned social media companies to operate in their country then 🤷 why won’t they?

Why won't the US government allow Facebook as an American company to provide the Chinese government information on when users in China use American social media to plan coups and insurrections?

Do you think the US government would be fine if conservatives started organizing a sequel attempted government overthrow to January 6th and the Chinese national government ordered that ByteDance block their US offices from accessing such user data to hand over?

the zionist puppet government strikes again

they want to ban it because they can't control the narrative on it

And who do you think is controlling the narrative on it?

Do you really believe Tiktok is the free press? :rip:

Those are all US-owned companies. The US government doesn’t care about individual users’ security, it cares about state security. They’ll be fine

I look for the senate Dems to slow walk this bill till after the election. 🤷 not because it’s wrong to pass it but just for the optics.

Lobbying campaign flooded offices on Capitol Hill with calls

Gallagher says the lobbying campaign that TikTok launched — with push notices using location information to connect users by phone to their member of Congress — proves why the bill is needed.

"You had member offices being deluged with calls, you know, teenagers crying and one threatening suicide and one impersonating one of my colleague's sons," he said. "That, to me, demonstrates how the platform could be weaponized in the future."

quite actually yes, it has brought more awareness in people on issues that would’ve otherwise wouldn’t have brought to spotlight on US owned social media platforms
