Is "This is me...now" floppage why legends are scared to release?

More like it wouldn't be profitable

(or no point in doing it, weather it is because of no interest or w/e)

tbh most of them have seen enough funds.. but they mostly dont feel the need to deliver something

Xtina and JLo are 2 of the pop girls who have (after a long ass break) decided to give something to their fans.. and Madonna hasn't  stopped (thankfully for her drive - which is largely the reason for her immense impact/success)

These rich ass girls don't care about flopping as yall think they do..

they've already built their legacy

It’s from her new movie, that clip looks so awful though, I’m crying. It looks like cardboard cut outs in front of the very first green screen ever made

What has JLO flopping got to do with legends being scared to release? What has JLO got to do with legends in the first place?

Not at all. Most "legends"/legacy acts only put out albums if they want an excuse to tour or if they have a big loyal fanbase to back it up.

Other than that its pretty pointless because they've already had massive careers and dont really have anything to prove amymore, commercially.

If they haven't reached their artistic peak, however, it makes sense for them to keep trying. I feel like this is why she released this album/movie in the first place.

Yeah yall don't want it to he true but she's a respected megastar and many see her as a legend due to her achievements in film and music as a Latina

Legends like J.Lo or basically any artist who is deemed "too old" cannot make a living.

Albums culture is dead and gone.

Sheryl, Alanis and now Jennifer Lopez, that makes 3 artists now that I know of, who said that their album (at the time) would be their last album.

Sheryl specifically gave an interview a few years back, that she will only record new music, when she has something to say. Making music for fun or for a living or for your artistic expression does not bring in any income anymore.

20 years ago, low peaking music could still sell like 1-2-3 million copies and generate lots of income.

Don't give me this: True artists are in it for the art nonsense... well... duh... but when said art is not selling / streaming anymore... what can you do?

Alanis has 3 young children, Sheryl has 2 kids, Jennifer has younger kids as well... but she is a show-horse (German expression)...

It's really become a dilemma.

#4 on my list is a German band, called KLAN, they have released 4 albums so far and they announced that their 5th album which will come out in a few weeks will be their last. It*s a duo of brothers... one of them said that he wants to return to his job as an emergency doctor (he's also become a father for the first time recently) and the other one wants to produce music for other artists.

It's so weird what's going on. Mariah too gave an interview 2 years ago announcing that she would never tour again (but then she did in 2023)... artists are constantly on the brink of retirement.... I wonder why that is? There must be a reason. 5 artists that I know of saying stuff like that is not a coincidence.

I'd like to believe that legends like Jen (yes, she absolutely is a legend) don't care about flopping as artists, but they're so big that they have to take into consideration the business side of an album release.

We have to remember that their success or floppage affects a lot of people who may be employed by them directly or indirectly. If an album flops with a big roll out, chances are slim that they'll keep releasing new music on a regular basis. If it doesn't make business sense for the label to invest in music, whether it's an indie label or big label, it's an uphill battle for an artist to release the music that they want to release. Which is why we should admire Jen for investing her own money into this project.

I wish Janet had the same drive so we can finally get Black Diamond.

well yes! in certain cases releasing an album could do more harm than good..cause if it flops it's bad for your image and it could make you lose money. Legacy acts that can go on tour without an album are not gonna take that risk.. in J.Lo's case i think she promoted this new era to push the tickets sales, hope it works out for her!

ABBA had no problem debuting at #1 in their home country and #2 in the US in the streaming era...

We all know why Céline hasn't released any studio album since 2019 and thats because of her health condition. I don't even think Céline ever thought about not releasing anything because she's afraid to flop. She's already 40 years in the business and has nothing left to prove. Her concerts will always sell out and her new music will always succeed in her key markets (Canada, France, including parts of Europe such as UK, Switzerland, Belgium etc.).

girl stop playing dumb. that's the equivalent of saying "I didn't know Demi was a singer, I thought she was an actress with that one Disney song back in the day"

i thought the song was for a movie lol. i mean i know she had a singing career at one point but i thought she was primarily an actress because i am much more familiar with her acting projects. then again I am dumb because i know that she also performed at the superbowl halftime show so obviously she sings. anyway even if she flopped, she may still have a decent tour, like others here mentioned.

The thing is Jlo hadn't been doing well even before the streaming era so it was going to be harder for her no matter what

The single was kinda week also. To be yours and Rebound were better choices

What is it with the gays on this forum and their unrealistic expectations for female artists to remain at the top of the game for the entirety of their lifespan?

Literally every person named in your post has had their fare share of time in the spotlight, has established their place in pop culture & music and has amassed a fortune to last for generations. And at the end of the day that's all that matters.

So what if JLo is flopping 25 years into her career? She's already made more money than she can spend in this lifetime. Good for her for putting some of that into a project she's very passionate about even after all these years in the industry. This should be celebrated but instead is being made fun of and ridiculed by frustrated internet homosexuals.

The older I get the more tired I am of this pathetic behavior in this sub-culture.

I know that’s right :clap3:

JLo is not a legend in the music world

i have to say something,

it just dropped and wasnt out for even longer than 4 days. i also though another legacy act (usher) flopped to oblivion after seeing initial streams but now he seems to be picking up, i think that will be the case for jlo, give her at least 2 weeks, for now shes #1  (album and the movie)

im not saying its gonna be a smasher, hell even olivia rodrigo guts is considered flop, but understand jlo fans are busy people (like idol like stan)

I think Mariah would be fine and achieve a solid debut. She needs to release Vinyl same day with different covers.

Lambs are very loyal and financially more stable than other fan bases, so they will just buy everything and it will push her strongly.
But yeah second week would be a collapse.

As for Jlo: she has no streaming power and how many fans does she have who will spend money on all these vinyls things?

and there are girls like Shakira who can release anything and it will always chart with good streaming and YouTube numbers.

It's the constraints of being with labels that are expecting you to churn out big hits to justify putting an album out.

Kylie has been effectively indie since 2018 and she's putting out albums consistently and earning acclaim and solid sales along the way. You may say she's not much more successful with her releases, but her profile increases year-by-year compared to women her age. Look at her monthly listeners on Spotify. A year ago she had just over 7 million listeners, and now she has more than doubled that amount to 15 million. Tension reached high peaks globally, Padam Padam accrued solid streams and won a Grammy, the album got great reviews, she earned big bucks for her Vegas gig, is going to do an international tour later this year (including potential stadium slots in the UK), and in general saw a lot of love over the past year. If the girls continued to release, they would definitely see a considerable uptick in sales and whatnot.
