Comedor Posted February 13 Posted February 13 I don’t know much about country music industry, but going from recent discussions on ATRL it seems they check all the wrong boxes. I have read them being called homophobic, racist and sexist in the past 24 hours. 1

That was my point, FFS is called pop but I would never complain about it because Rihanna is an artist of a certain magnitude that is inescapable from Pop music.
suburbannature Posted February 13 Posted February 13 This is just unabashed, overt racism and the users in here defending this for stan purposes are revealing their true colors. 1 1
suneclipse121 Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Beyoncé knew what she was getting herself into going with this sound. I’m sure none of this is catching her by surprise. 2
orange22 Posted February 13 Posted February 13 They would have shipped it back if Miranda sent it too but Bey will make something shake
Nickimeetsatrl Posted February 13 Posted February 13 I’m rooting so hard for her to expose the most racist genre of music! And she’s off to a great start.

The very first hurdle for Texas Hold 'Em will be that Beyoncé is seen primarily as a pop artist and that she is signed to a pop label. Country radio RARELY plays anything that wasn't sent by the label themselves. The next issue is that it is true that it is hard for women and even harder for black artists to get played on country radio (though for the past few years, there have been attempts by the industry to diversify. Thought not all have been successful). It's definitely going to be an uphill climb, but these past few years the country industry has seemed to try to smoothen its image, so the controversy that will happen when radio refuses to play this, could work to its benefit. (Similar to Girl Crush becoming a hit after controversy)

She will NEVER get play organically or support from country fans. The market for this album is her fans and her regular market. The reports and narrative since she released her direction for this album has been that she taking back a genre where black persons used to strive in. I think this controversy is exactly what she foresaw and planned for this era.
Superbitch Posted February 13 Posted February 13 (edited) Country radio is crazy and racist of course. But i think they don’t even play some girls like Kacey musgraves cuz she’s too liberal or something like that…. An album of the year winner. Not unexpected they’re refusing to play beyonce. They’re messy look at what’s topping their charts all the time? Morgan wallen. but urban radio is not that different if a white artist makes rap or a hip hop song they won’t play it either. It’s rare if they do. Edited February 13 by Superbitch 1

spree Posted February 13 Posted February 13 well she's no spring chicken, either. Maybe she's too old for that channel's demographic. Men can get away with it much more easily.

That's not what you meant and that's certainly not what you wrote. Individual songs have a genre, folk is a genre, whether the artist is popular or not. Edited February 13 by BnPac

Eminem is one of, if not, the most successful rappers of all time. Post Malone is one of the biggest current rappers. iggy azalea, Macklemore, G Eazy, Logic(yes I know he has black in him) all had success in the past decade. Urban radio has always played white rappers. The genre is predominantly black because it’s our culture but we definitely give other cultures play. Country on the other hand is extremely racist. 3
