Granted, I don't have TikTok, but from following fan updates and YouTube compilations of viral audios it seemed like the likes of "Breakin' Dishes", "If It’s Lovin’ That You Want", "Woo", "Where Have You Been", "Nobody's Business", and "Loveeeeeee Song" were all seemingly getting attention and growing presence on the platform. I suppose this was done through unauthorized audios...but still... so confused right now. I think only Lift Me Up is there 1
OreGuy Posted January 31 Posted January 31 everyone and their grandmothers are affected by this if true.

YellowRibbon Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Taylor owns her masters from Lover onwards AND the publishing rights of her entire catalogue... I don't think she'll pull out her music... This sucks for the smaller artists under UMG though

During If It's Lovin peak she deleted it from tik tok She's so annoying for that 1

FENTY. Posted January 31 Posted January 31 (edited) So I guess if Rihanna has the power to decide where her music is used other artists under UMG who own their masters can decide if they want to keep their music there or not? Edited January 31 by FENTY.

This is a cut and dry music licensing issue. There's no real legal precedent yet for ai so that will take several years to even begin to untangle. OT: Instagram reels are better and less homophobic anyway

TikTok had to ask permission to use UMG’s catalogue, not the other way around. They can, and will, find other ways to kickstart careers and revive old records. Just as how they did it before TikTok even existed. This is a list of the artists under UMG: Taylor Swift The Weeknd Drake BTS Ariana Grande Nicki Minaj Rihanna Olivia Rodrigo Kanye West Eminem Adele Billie Eilish SZA Kendrick Lamar Anitta Justin Bieber Lady Gaga + many more Poor TikTok.
Yog Posted January 31 Posted January 31 (edited) So basically TikTok tried to con UMG of an shorter amount than what the catalogs are worth, so many artists are about be inconvenienced.. Edited January 31 by Yog
Dr. Alexander Posted January 31 Posted January 31 By the way, this decision reminds me of how corporations and businesses called employees to come back in the office five days a week post-COVID. Its like the music industry saying, “OK. That’s enough. Get back to work and be productive”
Summer Boy Posted January 31 Posted January 31 (edited) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Universal_Music_Group_artists are they all affected? if so, that's literally every ATRL faves Edited January 31 by Summer Boy
Carla Rosón Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Kinda funny that they do this now after TikTok was majorly responsible for their biggest artist's current domination. 1

HeavyMetalAura Posted January 31 Posted January 31 UMG is HUGE but at the end of the day, people won’t stop using TikTok because some sounds aren’t available. I don’t care if you have Taylor Swift and every other top artist on your roster. At the end of the day, UMG needs TikTok more than TikTok needs UMG. The only way for UMG to have the upper hand is for the other major distributors to join them in this protest. I mean, I could be wrong, but that’s what my common sense is telling me. 6 1
