It is really appalling to me how they spread lies & misinformation then 'apologize' like nothing happened.

And before this:

Spread blatant lies & incitement -> get called out -> apologize after the damage is done and obviously not everyone sees the retraction. It has been constant for years now and I'm supposed to respect and trust these so-called 'professional' journalists and outlets?

I know I'm preaching to the choir here but I'm confident this is deliberate, as a propaganda tactic for the 21st century. Before the internet, news outlets could simply choose to not report what they didn't want you to hear and Larry King delivered you the news. Of course there were individual investigative journalists who, heroically, went rogue, but even then it was up to 'the system' (the news outlets) to approve or deny publishing these stories because we only consumed news from so many publications. Now, a video on Twitter can easily be seen by more people than the entire circulation of a news broadcast, and it's the naked truth, so it's impossible to ignore outright -- the aim now is to instill doubt. If there are two competing narratives, they hope the public will just choose not to investigate further and be Switzerland to the whole affair, which allows for business as usual. If they apologize, they've saved face on paper, but the public is confused. This is different than the past when we just simply didn't get the other side of the story.

I also think they're pushing AI for many reasons, but this is certainly one of them -- before we didn't believe everything we read but we always believed everything we saw. A video was considered final evidence. Now it can be called into question. This will really help the fog of war.

The good news is, for now, they're having a hard ******* time, and it shows. People around the world are seeing what is happening and that's why such large crowds have been hitting the streets. A couple of days ago Germany's ZDF reported about Israeli citizens who were moving to avoid violence and one mother was crying because the day of the terror attack her kid couldn't eat because of nervousness. After more than one thousand children have died in Gaza and hundreds of thousands more are without water and electricity, that report was incredibly indecent. And viewers know how indecent it is to ignore completely the drama of Palestine and focus on that mother instead. Several politicians are digging their own political graves by trying to use a twisted narrative that would have worked fifteen years ago, but doesn't work anymore.

Hi y’all I’m new here

Just been reading up on everything.. and wow

What I don’t understand is if Israel is so concerned about their hostages why are they carpet bombing the f*ck out of the entire place. Surely there are better methods to retrieve those people, especially considering the fact that they have access to the most advanced military equipment in the world

It makes their attempts to fabricate a voice recording supposedly from the other party even more embarrassing

Netenyahu should resign immediately. The American government backing this is incredibly stupid.

I'm not sure, but it seems as if Netenyahu believes that if he takes back any hostages, people will see that hostages can be freed, and he will pressured to negotiate with Hamas to take back more and he just wants to keep bombing while he has US and EU support.

I'm not sure of his long term goals, it wouldn't surprise me if he'd like to provoke a direct attack from Iran.

Then perhaps he can convince genocide Joe to attack Iran.

Catching up to the discourse here in the past few days, I’m sorry but most of the talking points discussed here reeks of western exceptionalism. I’m well aware that a large chunk of ATRL members live in the US and/or Europe, so it’s sort of expected that discourses on world events will be looked through a western perspective, but the complete inability of some of you to not constantly project your western expectations, dubious sense of morality and overall orientalist view on Palestine often lead this thread to pages of discussion with little to no substance.

Let's be real. You're a citizen of a western nation, that either financially support the brutal genocide of Palestinians or align themself with the bigger forces that do. You get to enjoy the perks of a civilization that is built on the exploitation of the Global South and your liberal political heroes work directly for the destabilization of non-western nations in order to maintain the current western hegemony.

It's beyond me the incapability of going beyond "I know some aspects of my government are bad, but it’s always been that way, it is what it is! Enough of this and let’s discuss the real important issue here: why do you want me, a western citizen, to care about these savages living in the Global South? They’d never fight for me against oppression, look at the way people with ‘Queers for Palestine’ signs were treated in that London protest. They're homophobic savages that make me feel scared for my safety. Stop silencing this conversation! Look, these savages can’t even denounce HAMAS!”

Absolutely no depth.

Some of you see yourselves in the perfect place to treat liberation for entire disenfranchised communities as a merit instead of a right, but when is your position, as a western citizen living in a world dominated by a western hegemony, ever going to be a topic for a change? Will it ever be up for discourses around accountability?

I don’t live under an apartheid regime, so I can’t be the one to speak for those living under such systemic dynamics, but as someone born and raised in a region that has historically suffered the effects of colonialism, neo-imperialism and the US-backed horror inflicted upon my people, neolib talking points feel like a mockery of what ‘resistance’, ‘oppression’ or even so-called ‘intersectionality’ mean.

Whether it’s here or elsewhere, the more I see the constant policing of non-western voices motivated by a western sense of morality, the less I feel interested in engage on the sanitizing of oppressed communities in the hopes they won’t be perceived as a threat to Western Exceptionalism or too “anti-US”/“anti-West”. It has historically led us to nowhere.

Blank statements like "Israel has a right to defend itself" or "Israel's right to self-determination" should be perceived as an endorsement for genocide and ethnic cleansing at this point.

I feel so seen by this. I have a foot in Chile and a foot in the US (I was born and raised in Chile and have lived on and off in the US for the past 8 years). I urge people to look up Pinochet, who backed him up, and what he did in my country. And that's absolutely nothing compared to what the Middle East has suffered at the hands of the US.

It's so telling when someone doesn't have this perspective and does not care at all to acquire it. I applaud those who despite being overly privileged have sought information and become compassionate and empathetic to other people's pain.

It wouldn't let me follow the account when I tried it an hour or two ago. After a page refresh, the follow was missing.

The Elon Musk fans really thought he was anti-censorship. :dies:
