‘Do not use our death to bring death’: plea to Israel from peace activists’ grieving families

Noy Katsman knew the eulogy for their murdered brother would anger some who came to mourn, but did not want the violence of Hayim Katsman’s death to eclipse his life as a peace activist.

Grief and loss at Hayim’s slaughter was magnified by watching Israel launch a war in his name, said Noy, who is non-binary. So at the funeral, relying on a Jewish tradition of respect for the bereaved, Noy called for it to stop.

“Do not use our death and our pain to bring the death and pain of other people and other families,” Noy told the hundreds-strong crowd, as the government bombed Gaza and prepared for a massive ground invasion. “I have no doubt that even in the face of Hamas people that murdered him … he would still speak out against the killing and violence of innocent people.”

Arguing against retaliation in Gaza, as Israel reels from the scale and brutality of the massacres by Hamas on 7 October, is unpopular. At one point in the eulogy the mourners tutted in anger and disapproval.

But afterwards Hayim’s friends came to thank Noy. “One told me: ‘It’s exactly what your brother would have wanted you to say.’”

Hayim and Noy are part of Israel’s relatively small community of leftists, peace activists and human rights campaigners, people who broadly believe their country cannot fight its way to peace.

If you are able to attend a protest please do so. Vocalizing your dissent will make them uncomfortable and you’ll be around people who will help/protect you, but having said police can be aggressive even at peaceful demonstrations. Just be mindful if you do and stay strong sis :heart2:

Everyone… please look at this account and click on the “Media” section to view their recent photos/videos.

The way they are going after anyone who speaks out against the genocide in Gaza to get them fired from work or expelled for school

:biblio:

And not this one person asking for this Arab dentist (who’s an American citizen btw) to be deported

What an awful, awful organization. I wish organizations like this and Canary Mission could get banned somehow. You should not be allowed to get fired from work or expelled from school just for speaking out against Israeli apartheid.

Then how is his position on Russia-Ukraine relevant in this thread? The tweets they're posting from his are literal videos with all the context included

Hey @Aristotle instead of downvoting, how about you answer the question I directly asked you?

claiming „Israel funded Hamas“ is misinformation. Fantasizing that Israel did so in order to create a monster that they could genocide later on is conspiracy

You've been clocked with a million sources already, but y'all need to learn the difference between a conspiracy and a conspiracy theory.

Conspiracies are real and happen every single day, especially in politics. For instance, back in the 60s there was a conspiracy to separate twins and triplets at birth and place them in different homes, then study them as they grew up, to come up with a more concrete answer to nature vs nurture. It was carried out by psychologists and Louise Wise Services, an adoption agency. That's a conspiracy and it was very very much real, it concluded with a triplet committing suicide, btw. "Israel is responsible for Hamas" is not a conspiracy theory. It's a conspiracy and it's real.

Things sounding ludicrous doesn't mean they're not real. I beg of you to do an ounce of research before throwing around accusations.

Thanks for giving me a heads up on conspiracy/theory, wasn’t aware of the differentiation.

And I wasn’t clocked, I haven’t found time to give a proper reply yet. Saying „Israel is responsible for Hamas“ is also very different from saying they „funded“ or even „created“ it.

Just an example of social media (especially Reddit) being astroturfed by pro Israel propaganda.

A post in r/worldnews promotes the narrative that a hospital that is in the middle of a war zone where thousands are injured somehow only accommodates 80 patients and that it is impossible for there to have been more people there. Because its no like hospitals in war zones get overrun or anything, or that there is staff caring for patients in beds.

An example of comments being spammed in response to people questioning the headline:

This is ******* insane

They did fund it. They gave it money, which is the definition of "funding". This was admitted by multiple Israeli sources. They didn't create it per se, because it was created by Palestinian fundamentalists, but it was a tiny party with no real backing from the public, which supported a secular party called Fatah, for the most part (Fatah is still the majority opposition in the Palestine Legislative Council). Israel wanted to divide Palestinians because having them align with a secular self governing party went against their interests (to occupy the entire region).

You can literally look this up instead of arguing that it's a conspiracy theory. You "don't have time" to check sources but you have time to belittle people online without actually doing research?

That was their plan all along. They "ignored" the attack from Gaza, let them do their thing to have a reason to annihilate them. Israel wanted a reason to erase Gaza and that's what they're doing now. Filthy.

The mentioned intercept article leaves out the context and is thus misleading. Israel gave funds to what Hamas was back then, a branch of the Muslim brotherhood. A peaceful Islamic organisation that provided social services, built mosques, etc. Israel did this to weaken the secular and violent PLO. That was all before 1987 when the organisation took a Militarist nationalist turn and Hamas eventuell emerged.

Also one Google search away.

The founder of Hamas was Ahmed Yassin, a Palestinian nationalist who opposed zionism and literally supported the armed resistance of Palestine against Israel. The FOUNDER of Hamas had those views. After his assassination, the Israel Minister of Defense called Yassin "the Palestinian Bin Laden."

This will probably be my last comment on the hospital blame game (considering most news organizations now are reporting it wasn’t Israel) but if Hamas or the Palestine government who ever is in charge around that area right now have different proof that it was Israel they should release it asap. Why haven’t they released anything proving it yet? Where’s the debris from the missle? Ect. I’ve seen nothing except videos from random Twitter users as “proof” but nothing officially from them.

Girls IDF claim have been debunked multiple times, should I bring the bombing of AP office and assassination of Shireen Abu Akleh which IDF blaming Hamas first then gets exposed for lying. This is not first time IDF targeting hospitals, they did dozens time for decades. You just being denial at this point, or simply know that IDF is the guilty but wanna spread propaganda
