Is Taylor Swift Too Big to Fail? Will TS11 be a hit no matter what?

She is set to be artist of the decade with the re-recordings and her next album. The only chance she'll underperform is if she take a very long break, like adele's 25 to 30.

She could decline 75% and still be bigger than Beyonce who ATRL considers a success so you will probably be dreaming for a while.

100% guaranteed her next album will debut as a smash hit. Possibly even set records. I think she has a large core fanbase that’ll love anything she releases.

If that album is too polarizing for whatever reason, the one after is where it would begin to show (and even then she’s smart enough that she would course correct to avoid that.)

There’s no way she flops with this just because of her insane core fanbase. She could see a decline in 2-3 albums, but there’s no way she has poor numbers.

I mean, everyone declines at some point but obviously it's not like her next album will only debut with 200K or sumn

Nobody stays on top forever but she has a big following.

Obviously

Look at Ariana

Positions was meh (one of her worst albums if u ask her fans) and it did fine

Midnights was one of the most hated Taylor albums (again, by her stans) and it was super successful

I am a fan of both, but lbr ...if u are at your peak, u will not fail as easily

Streaming has made it easier for that + they are established and not that old for their fans to let them go.

it is set for a big debut, but if the reception is bad it could be frontloaded

They said the same thing about MJ and Madonna in the 80’s and then they both had sex scandals/ Erotica eras. A controversy is the only thing that will probably stall her. But at this rate musically she is solidified for the next decade at least

Being a pedophile is not a “sex scandal” :rip:

OT: Nobody is too big to fail, but she is very good at shifting sounds and at this point she is both a legacy and current act, so she is playing with a deck nobody has played before.

Taylor isn’t controversial or polarizing like mj or madonna. Taylor what makes her so big is that she very likable to the average person, her music is relatable and easy to listen which is why she so huge. Taylor on top has a massive fanbase. The only times you seen her decline is because usually the music just isn’t very good and people got tired of overexposure. If she declines now it mostly be because she too overexposed and the quality declines with her next album.

She would have to get complacent and take a huge break + experience a big concerted critical backlash + deliver genuinely terrible music for her next album to “fail”.

I’m going to go against the grain and just say yes. I think she’s crossed a threshold where she’s not going to flop in her career, ever. Her longevity, consistency, and constant position at the forefront of the industry is unprecedented, and she’ll become one of those artists who casually goes #1 on the Billboard 200 50 years into their career even if the overall era doesn’t quite match current stars of the day. Like sure, anything can happen, technically, but the overwhelming odds are that her fanbase carries her basically forever at this point, barring a truly massive scandal.

Midnights is one of her best albums and was one of the best pop albums of 2022.

Nope.  That’s what everyone thought about Gaga in 2010/early 2011 too.  Taylor needs to be careful with how overexposed she is becoming.  Overexposure leads to resentment.  Nothing, absolutely nothing, is ever too big to fail.  Use the Titanic as another example.

True. I can already see a lot of resentment in places like Instagram/Facebook. But I think what differentiates Taylor from others is that she keeps delivering musically. The only way I can see her experiencing a big decline is if one of her records is bad and then the next one is also bad. The decline from that one bad one to the next one would be massive. Like if she served another ME!/YNTCD after the lover era she would have been over by now. So in that sense TS11 is immune from flopping. It could still be a big decline from Midnights - something like Sour to Guts

I can't see a Taylor album performing worse than Lover for the next 15 years (and Lover was still a success)

You mean perform worse than evermore. That's her floppiest album and it's at 7m and will be over 10m by next year which is a big milestone for 9th albums

OT: I dont think it will be as big as Midnights. But it will probably be as successful as Folklore which is a win. I think she has several more 10m+ units albums in her

Reputation is mixed (with big haters and big lovers)

and Lover used to be loved just because of the big haters of Rep (but after folklore/evermore came out, barely anyone uses the entirety of it)

((so it's more of a disliked album..but most will just leave it in the middle-lower scale and wouldn't hate on it too much. just pray to forget it))

Midnight had the most consensus in hate

probably still does, since I feel u need some time with it to like at least half of the songs on it

(and cant blame fans, she was coming off of arguably her best albums, so it is tough to outdo it)

Taylor had her ups & downs. After 1989 she kinda lost her appeal among the GP I mean she had  a number one and all but neither reputation/lover were as big as 1989 but still huge overall she might replicate the same pattern with TS11 but not to the point of having a flop era.
