ATRL Moderator supaspaz Posted December 25, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted December 25, 2023 How are people suggesting Madonna? Mariah was literally bought out of her recording contract because she flopped so hard and was seen as a mentally unstable joke by the public. Then she goes on to score the biggest hit of her career, sell millions of albums and win several Grammys. It’s an incredible comeback from rock-bottom. Madonna wasn’t nearly so on the outs. 1

She won ROTY SOTY and according to CM it sold 35m units and it had a smash world tour. 19 hours ago, TheRealGâteau said: Private Dancer is. 19 hours ago, Mitsouko said: Private Dancer 5 hours ago, Lady Claire said: Private Dancer is. Tina was a black woman on her 40s, fighting for her place as a successful solo artist after years of personal abuse and struggle... and then became one of the biggest female artists of all time. Technically everyone would count her out but she came back stronger than ever.

Psyduck Posted December 26, 2023 Posted December 26, 2023 (edited) Private Dancer is the most legendary. She really came back from almost a dead career, being in her late 40s, and had never experienced that level of success before. It was as if she was a brand new artist. And she had two more big albums after that. Whereas Mariah was still selling a million plus with her previous album. I would put Emancipation, Believe, Circus, Confessions on a Dancefloor, Light Years (in the UK/Australia), A Star is Born 2018, Loose, and Bangerz are also up there Edited December 26, 2023 by Psyduck 2

naval23 Posted December 26, 2023 Posted December 26, 2023 Honestly in the US, yes it's probably unprecedented - her biggest album in over 10 years, 2 #1s, a top 2 hit blocked by her own song, being #1 best seller of 2005 and selling in 2006 and having the female song of the decade is insane
1989 Posted December 26, 2023 Posted December 26, 2023 No, Private Dancer remains the greatest comeback by a female artist ever. Mimi is definitely top 5, though.
