JoeAg Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 I’m inclined to say Ella Fitzgerald, but it could also be argued that it was Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, or Diana Ross personally, I kinda like the thought of Tina as the first MPG, that’s kind of an epic notion 6

Dionne Warwick and Aretha Franklin also had global hits long before Madonna even thought of becoming a singer and Josephine Baker was a global sensation before Madonna was even born. I don't know what it is with gays pretending that pop music didn't exist before Madonna and trying to erase the impact of women who paved the way for her. 1 1

Gays erasing the contributions of black women, I'm shocked. 3

She had hits everywhere. She was one of the biggest artists globally in the 70s and early 80s.

Even Madonna would tell them this as she stands on Ms. Summer's shoulders. She wouldn't have been able to dominate later and break the commercial glass ceiling for women had Donna not paved the road for her in the 70s, popularizing Dance music, the genre that Madonna would frequently inhabit in her career. 3
