Popular Post MadMax12 Posted October 30, 2023 Popular Post Posted October 30, 2023 Since the beginning of her career, Katy has played to her strengths the most of out of all the pop girls. She became a household name with Teenage Dream as a bubblegum princess and ‘girl next door’, achieving 6 number ones in one era due to smart promotion and marketing strategy. When Gaga’s shock novelty wore off, Katy was able to capitalise with her relatable brand and gained lots of public support. Just when it seemed like she couldn’t get bigger, Prism spawned the biggest hits of her career - Roar and Dark Horse, cementing her as the new biggest pop star. I’ve never experienced a pop star being loved as much as when Roar came out. That was the moment she had the world in her grasp, radios rushing to playlist her, skyrocketing sales, media and tv shows praising her to the heavens. She strikes me as someone who will keep going and work hard, even if Smile and Witness didn’t have the same success. Like Madonna in her prime, she is business savvy and understands the importance of the image as a pop star. She will reinvent her image and sound, and continue to cement her success. She has remained humble, surrounds herself with a great team who deliver high quality visuals and never let ego or fame corrupt her 3 17 15 2
elevate Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 No. She hasn't been able to leverage her success into a) continued success in music, and b) other ventures (makeup, fashion, global tours, etc), so when she's put against contemporaries like Taylor, Rihanna, and even Ariana, she doesn't compare well. 1
Enrique523 Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 If she was that smart she wouldn't have made all the mistakes she made post-Prism. 4 1
GentleEarthquake Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 Yes if you pretend Witness and Smile never happened 2
Junipero Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 "She has remained humble, surrounds herself with a great team who deliver high quality visuals and never let ego or fame corrupt her" Didn't she fall into depression because "Witness" underperformed? She probably had higher hopes in terms of success, but perhaps her ego had become high after 8 #1's on the Hot 100. Yes, Katy has 5 #1's, but apparently people didn't like that she had to make remixes with features, discounts, etc... but still, her management was very smooth in how they were able to acheive that. 2
vale9001 Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 (edited) I love your passion (i'm not joking), It's beautiful to see such good spirited enthusiasm about a favourite artist doesn't need to bring down others. But i think the part you wrote about her being loved by everyone in the media is not that true. Yeah maybe she never been very divisive but also not so universally beloved or respected by everyone imo. Edited October 30, 2023 by vale9001 2
GraceRandolph Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 Gaga is the smartest. She knew how to blow up immediately without the help of Max Martin or Dr. Luke, and had the intelligence to understand the music industry was a lost cause, before planning a seamless transition to acting. 3
West Coast Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 I ain’t gonna read that essay when everybody knows it’s Taylor 7 1

FreeXone Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 If it wasn’t for American Idol what would she have?

jakeisphat Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 (edited) I don't think she is. I would disagree that the public felt she was relatable. She was so big at the time because she was releasing bops. Aside from that, a lot of people felt her personality was off-putting the way she kept trying to be funny and wacky all the time. It didn't really matter in the beginning because for OOTB and TD, her fans were young. But she kept doing that same comedy act in her videos and public appearances and it got old because her core fans matured. I never understood why she didn't just film some videos being a bad ***** instead of trying to make people laugh and dressing up as corny characters. I thought Witness would have shown her the circus she was putting on in the Swish Swish and Bon Appetit videos was a sign to get more serious... but she followed that up by dressing as a literal clown for Smile. Anti-Hero Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 the way she released bday and this is how we do instead of LL and WOA is a dmb move. So nope 1
Sheep Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 I don't think its possible for ANYBODY to get as far as any of the pop girls have without some serious intelligence.
ithinkheknowsoutsold Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 No, she's the dumbest. Always on the wrong side of history in her desperate attempts to be socially proactive, and that ruined her career. 6 5
