Dua Lipa - "Houdini"

People need to give it up expecting instant smashes from her. I think it will never happen since she always tries something new for her leads so it always takes time for the GP to get comfortable with her material. She is gonna serve a Rihanna who never had an instant smash with her 8 albums.

Just like with Rihanna it will pay off hugely in the end since she is already collecting huge mega smashes that become classics.

You know very well that's not the reason why she can't get instant smashes:rip: She's just not that interesting as an artist. She's much bigger than she was before FN and STILL needs tons of promo to get hits is very alarming. Her name is not powerful, and it will probably never be, it is what it is.

With this logic I can use Drake as an interesting artist whose song that went No. 1 with SZA on first week is currently sitting at No. 70 on the charts. Two big massive names on a song, both of which have really strong support bases. Is the problem with Drake still lack of interest despite ‘smashing out the gate’ ? Surely that’s the only explanation for why people who tend to smash out the gate always fall off after a month tops.

You cant say that with a straight when she has 5 of the biggest hits of the last 5-6 years

And STILL doesn't have a sizable fanbase:rip: Those hits were faceless after all:rip:

She’s so “faceless” she secures massive movie deals, smash collabs, sell out world tours and multiple billion stream global hits :rip:

Aren’t her two albums the top two streamed female albums in Spotify history? How does that prove her facelessness? Oh wait “payola” right? You losers have an excuse lined up for everything

Houdini isn’t connecting out the gate. It happens. It happened with Stupid Love, Happier Than Ever etc. Maybe it never will. She’ll get over it and apparently you never will!

This thread being top 10 biggest threads since the ATRL wipe and half of every page is ODH fuming. Y’all don’t see how embarrasing you sound on the daily?

"Aw, why don't we have hard working popstars anymore? This generation is so boring and lazy, pop is dead"

*popstar makes fun unpretentious pop and promotes*

"Generic, faceless, same old same **** that needs payola and promo to smash lol"

Most of this forum is braindead.

I've been saying this since before FN

But even Dua stans insist on her smashing from the start and it's not surprising since some of Rih stans used to act like that back in the day too

It's just not the same strategy. This is aiming for the GP. Drake and Taylor aim for a one week at #1 then plummeting to make their stats look better.

i really wonder why ODH hate dua so much :rip: like she’s literally the least problematic, down to earth and sweetest pop girl out there.

I mean it's not like they are real. Most of the hate comes from that one Camila stan and those troll or dupe accounts

The song seem to not be clicking with the GP, which is sad, because it’s amazing and you can tell she really wants to succeed :doc: Ambitious people just never win and ones like Jack Harlow take the cake by constantly posting random videos with their dogs on TikTok :dancehall2:

This is where stanning just gets annoying. The song is great and its performance won't change my mind.

i’ve been saying this is gonna be her dangerous woman era - a more mature sound, managed by a parent, moderately well performing lead after a super smash era… we just need to wait till her second and third singles cause that’s when the real bangers/hits are coming :WAP:

Well maybe you’re right :WAP:

Anything female fronted, with its roots in the Disco genre is always going to alienate straight, white, regional male radio DJ’s across the U.S. and bring out their patriarchal instincts. I have no doubt they are demonstrating their ‘soft power’ by minimizing plays of the song and therefore its impact.
