Hey, Hitmakers! So far this season you’ve taken us on a journey, given us a fright, made your choices, and embraced the season.
While judging for Round 4 is underway, we decided to work together and provide an early start for your next writing challenge.

 

Without further ado, let me introduce you all to the fifth round of Season 5...

 

Surprise! An ancient evil returns: the collaboration challenge. The writing tournaments of yesteryear typically had at least one challenge where players were tasked with working together. This wasn’t always optional, and partners may have been assigned rather than chosen. As writing tournaments have shifted away from such imposed restrictions, we understand the importance of choice when it comes to collaboration. Therefore, Golden Hit’s first collaboration challenge has 3 ways to satisfy it:

 

I ⚜ Writing Partners
The challenge in its classic form: partner up with another player from this season and write a song. There is little restriction outside of this requirement: you may write about whatever you wish. It can be written as a duet or rap/sung collaboration, or as one cohesive song for a soloist. You may even work in groups if you desire! No need to itemize who wrote what—just let the lyrics do the talking. You will receive one score for your collaboration which will contribute to all its writers’ averages.

 

II ⚜ Judge Co-write
As a twist on the collaboration component, you may wish to choose this option if for whatever reason partnering up with another player isn’t suited to you. Your judges have written and curated a selection of incomplete song-starters for you to finish. Like a true co-writing session, sometimes an artist has an idea they can’t complete, and requires an outsider to free the diamond from the rough. You may manipulate these song-starters freely, and spin them in any direction you can imagine.

III ⚜ Individual Duet
Lastly, if the thought of somebody else’s lyrics—be it another player’s or a judge’s—contributing to your individual performance simply doesn’t inspire you, this option may be more suitable. In this challenge you are tasked with independently writing one song that conveys multiple distinct voices. We’re looking for a duet or rap/sung collaboration that feels as if it were written for two or more artists, and how you can utilize different techniques to achieve this while making a cohesive song.
