Like light years way beyond that, the proliferation of public media has forced men to be way more secretive about their sexuality. In this way men wouldn't be able to bullsh*t their way out of the study and we would find out Alfred Kinsey was totally right, even 37% is below the real number because by 1948 mass media was growing exponentially and men had to hide their sexuality more proficiently and smoothly.

 

That's just the way it is guys, we still have work to do for equality in the world especially with those disgusting religious zealots, far-right POSs and bigots messing with the community.

This is an anecdote but I recently stayed in an all man’s shelter for 2 months, it reminded me a lot of jail except we were able to leave when we wanted but had a curfew. Most of the guys are not my type however during that time 9 guys asked me to do something sexual, most of them were just bold and str8 up asked and others worked there way to asking. I only messed around with one who was a Cuban dude with tattoos and 35 years old. He has 2 kids. He was actually the first person I ever saw outside of the shelter, he was shirtless standing outside the fence and I remember thinking he was fine af. I went up to him and told him I thought his tattoos were sick, just as an excuse to talk to him. Anyhow once inside the shelter i would say hi to him when I passed him by for like the first 3 days but I overheard him say “Maricon” which means ***, after I said hi to him in the hallway, so ever since then I would keep my distance and just not say anything. Anyway i started noticing that he would get really high, could tell because his eyes were red as hell. When I passed him by he would say **** in Spanish like “he’s gonna be mine”, at first I thought I was hallucinating but it happened to many times for it to be a coincidence. One day I was the only one up at like 2am and I saw him come out to the living room area looking anxious. I decided wtf I’ll go up to him and see what’s up. I did and he said he was like that because he had nothing to smoke. I gave him $5 and he went and bought some. One night he started asking sexual questions and I thought it might be a trap so I kept my answers vague. He asked me to meet him in the bathroom and so I did. This is what I'm talking about. The guy you're talking about: 2 kids. That's the point and it's kind of sad actually, because that's some of the lengths guys in the closet go to hide their sexuality. Not saying necessarily he doesn't love his kids but you could probably infer the guy would probably want to have kids with a another guy. What is he doing going after another guy when he has a family to take care of? Where is the mother of the kids and why isn't he with her? Not condemning, it's just to get a clearer picture of the situation.

 

There's people in the community that say "homophobes are not gays in the closet" to say that homophobia isn't perpetrated from within the community but it's more complex than that, there are definitely homophobes that are not from the community and lots of them, that are just plain disgusting bigots but for example the guy you're talking about called you a slur, a homophobic attitude, but that's 'cause society, in a way, "forced" him to do that. It's the typical "well if I show a negative attitude towards them I won't be confused as part of them" and that's the situation tons of men find themselves into. They're like "fake homophobes", but by how deep in the closet they are, they can eventually turn into bigots and lie to themselves so bad that they can transform the closet situation into mental illness. Looks like the guy you're talking about is homophobic just on surface-level as a defense mechanism from world's homophobia and he knows well he is into men. There's men who can't even accept in their own mind that they like men, these are the kind that can turn into bigots but use hook up apps 'cause their bigotry can't erase their sexuality.

 

Point is, there's so many gay/bisexual in the closet that there are going to be corrupted ones, for example a bisexual holding to their straight side for dear life and acting like an assh*le/homophobic to open bisexuals/homosexuals to hide their gay side, and that's a very common MO to defend themselves from homophobia. The enemy is bigger, for example, religious institutions artificially condemning homosexuality as a way to control population. Happens with catholicism, islam, evangelicalism, etc.

 

In this situation (Ryan Guzman), there's a common type of marriage in the celebrity world (and out of it ofc) called Lavender Marriage. Which basically is an agreed-upon marriage where a woman agrees to marry a gay/bisexual man and viceversa to help protect them from homophobia. The term was coined in the early 20th century and it's really sad that with all kinds of human advancements in different areas, when it comes to social advance we're still behind, a lot, and actors like him still have to use it.
