Don't claim victory for "Cruel Summer" just yet... US Drake fans have started a mass buying/streaming party to get IDGAF to #1 now.

Oh god, I don’t have a power for that anymore.

So instead of letting this single smash organically, her fanbase will be happier with inorganic chart manipulations with that cheap discount and a new version of the same song giving Willow teas after ya'll specifically said Taylor isn't obsessed with charts? :toofunny3:

This song had a very impressive chart run, is more popular than whatever Taylor has released since 2014 and your greed ruined that just because you and her couldn't handle that a #2 could be more impressive than a desperate #1 in the long run.

My respect for Taylor started growing with her not giving a **** but oh well. I liked the song either way and a #1 won't change that. In Taylor's discography, however, she'll now have three singles that went to #1 based off new versions and discounts. Seriously, you Swifties don't ever try to come for any other artist who does this.

She didn’t release a new version. Her team forgot to have a single version like every single other single ever releases :rip: so they did it now which is perfect timing. In no way is this inorganic

Please, many huge organic hit songs also went #1 on the back of new versions and discounts. Industry Baby had an extended version that had a mere 10-second-longer outro than the original the week it went #1.

A single version for a fifth single? Gurl. This is probably a calculated move on her and her team's part. But that $0.69 discount is inorganic because it wasn't selling as much at full price.

Yeah but most songs are dragged by doing these things. I'm just saying the song didn't need a #1. It was a Top 5 smash and now it's gonna have that discount next to it, something this particular song didn't need. Its chart run is a bit tainted by it.

Nobody cares about that. Even her stans have accepted she's very calculated and there is nothing wrong with that. You should just get over it tbh.

She was #1 on iTunes even before the discount, the think pieces and dramatics :toofunny3: over what, the little discount when digital sales are very much obsolete these days and should be $0.69 to begin with.

If every song was $0.69 then it would be down to scratch again since the difference would be minimal. She may have been #1 but she's predicted to go #1 now because of the discounts. Her being #1 before didn't have that big of an effect.

I guess you're right. I just hate it when songs are #1 not entirely based on popularity but because of discounts and tactics. It's nothing new but still just... like... just let things play out organically.

imagine not wanting your favorite artist to build on their legacy just because its chartrun will tainted in the eyes of atrl user “JaXXXon” :rip:

we really don’t care. this song is one of the biggest smashes of 2023 and unlike many other songs, doesn’t have a music video or even a lyric video to help it. it needed a small push and they did it just like everyone does because it’s industry standard. if a little discount that’s gonna last 3 days is going to make you think a song that has been climbing organically for the past 24 weeks is “tainted” then that’s a you problem. you need to get out of here with that.

it would be more respectable if you just admitted you’re lowkey mad that she’s bagging another #1. at least i can respect the honesty.

Die For You and Kill Bill only went #1 due to their remixes, both of which are currently OUT on Spotify and AM. Does that make them inorganic?

Cruel Summer is an album track from 2019 that went viral before being made a single and sent to radio, and has been in the top 10 for months, it is the definition of organic. Just stop :rip:

Cruel Summer is a certified smash. There's nothing wrong with a little push

Who said it wasn't organic? I specifically said it is organic but its road to #1 is inorganic. Maybe take your jump-down-anyone-who-disagrees-with-me glasses off and read with caution.

And so has Cruel Summer!

Idk at this point, if a song that's spent 10 weeks #1 on pop airplay and has been more or less consistently top 10 on US Spotify since June isn't organic I don't know what is. If Levitating had gone #1 that week you'd probably agree that it was deserved for a smasher of its calibre (and I agree), despite the fact it also had multiple versions and a 0.69 discount.

No shade to Dua by the way, just a convenient example.

Um yeah. They're inorganic #1s, not inorganic overall.

The way this entire reply pretty much sums up why people hate the Swifties :toofunny3:

Didn't the Swifties come for others who've done these types of calculated discounts in the past? Practice what you preach.

I like Cruel Summer btw.
