That's just the US babe but u already knew that

Also ofcourse the numbers I mentioned were for this year and obviously not all goes to her anwyay

That 28.9m is for Taylor

And Katy gets like 1/10th of her streams

Plus Taylor owns half of her masters. Katy doesn't.

So basically Katy is earning like $2-3m in streaming royalty

Putting aside the fact those billboard numbers are from 2021;

Taylor's streams for the whole of 2021 on spotify - 9B

Taylor's streams for the whole of 2022 on spotify - 14B

Taylor's streams from January to July 2023 - 14B (with 1989TV coming soon she will double the 2022 numbers).

If 9B -> 30M; 28B -> 93M

So, where do we go from here?

The revenue numbers from Billboard are for her global streams tho, so even if she makes $90M from streaming this year, it'll be for all her streams and not just from Spotify like the other user claimed.

Not $90m just from streaming :deadbanana4:

What kind of control over your past music do you need? Essentially this probably just means her music will be popping up more casually in commercial usage and be more frequently repackaged, covered etc... As a listener/fan it shouldn't have any impact on you.

How do you know that? Capitol still owns her masters. She only sold her publishing rights and royalties.

How do we contact the new owner and request he remove witness from all streaming platforms immediately

Does this mean she is not gonna gain any profit from her 5 albums?

this is actually a good deal for katy, they only bought her stake of her master but with 225m.

imagine if she actually owns her master and selling them :chick2:

 i mean she has hits, she has classics, but still 225m is insane for her catalouge

so Katy`s 1st five album almost valued the same as Taylor 1st six albums ( it was 300m but it`s for the whole Big Machine label which i think Taylor`s part is around 250m)

not really. katy sold both master rights and publishing rights to her music. meaning the only rights she has left is whatever in her contract w the buyer (if theres any)

taylor lost master rights only, she still has publishing rights.

in short: katy's music ($225M) <<< taylor's first six albums' master recordings (sold again for $405M)

Yeah no, I just estimated what the global revenue numbers for 2023 will look like using spotify as a estimation tool since it is the only streaming service that is widely used AND gives us transparent numbers every single day.

When a company owns the rights to music, all they care to do is make money from it. It's not so much "how do I know?" and more, what are you afraid of happening and where have there been instances of similar things happening?

Again, this should have no impact on you as a consumer.

Whether or not this is a smart financial decision for Katy is a moot point. Obviously her music is making a lot of money in recurrent streams and licensing -- otherwise it wouldn't be worth buying for $225m. It's just a matter of a bigger payout now vs. receiving it over time. I imagine for Katy and anyone else who has sold their catalogues, it's about getting a lump sum now and then re-investing the money.

HOWEVER... none of these deals are to be celebrated. Private equity is quite literally ruining society (at least in the US). Even if you don't care about housing, medicine, food, retail... literally everything... you should at least care about how it's ruining the entertainment industry. There is no reason to invest in new, original content anymore when you can just re-package old hits and force them onto TTH.

How do these deals even work? Does Katy bank all of that money or is it split between writers and producers etc? Because I want Bonnie McKee to make fat stacks from this so she can keep giving us MPG-level music videos for her upcoming album.

Is this a retirement? With her Vegas coming to an end. :biblio:

Well, Shakira did the same and just revived her career :giraffe:

Does she get all of the $225M or Capitol gets a piece of the cake as well?

From what I understand, it all goes to her, since she's selling just the royalties/masters that belong to her. It doesn't affect the co-writers, producers, etc

If that is the case then i can live with that :chick2:

It’s always funny when broke ATRLers say artists are underselling themselves for selling their masters. Taylor brainwashed y’all into thinking rights to masters are everything, when it’s really not. 225 is amazing for Katy Perry, an artist who peaked 10 years ago no shade.
