Music critic: "Taylor massively overhyped. Critics afraid of backlash from Swifities"

I've always seen her dance moves as play-acting the typical pop star and her fans being in on the joke.

She's never claimed to be a Britney or J.Lo. The notion that there's a benchmark requirement for her not to do it at all is absurd.

Whether she’s play-acting or not, she’s still doing choreographed dance routines like “typical popstars” as you say

So naturally when she looks a mess doing so she will be mocked. It’s quite simple.

Umm nobody with sense is gonna sense is gonna argue against Nevermind’s acclaim, even if it’s not their kind of music. It’s a legendary groundbreaking album.

Midnights was PANNED on ATRL by Pop stans until those reviews and sales came in, and even now it’s still far from acclaimed by the pop audience.

Trust me, you will find people who will say 'Nevermind' isn't iconic.

So you're basing your argument on ATRL's pop stans reviews for an album to be acclaimed or panned??

But when it comes to Swift, I have never understood it. And as her fandom grows ever more deranged, as the media flocks to her side en masse, publishing breathless op-eds about how she is single handedly fending off the US recession with a tour that is predicted to fetch a record-busting $1.4 billion, or how her massing fans have caused literal ‘earthquakes’ at stadium venues (fact check: these tremors are a common occurrence with big stadium tours and sports games), I can’t help but think that this deification of Taylor Swift is neither healthy – nor deserved.

Omg, yas queen! We need more reporters like her :clap3:

Chris doesn’t and never has attempted actual choreographed routines. His jumping around on stage is not actual dancing and everyone knows it.

Taylor’s dance moves are rightfully dragged because she insists on trying (and failing) at choreography, if she just stuck to playing a guitar then no one would be complaining about her dancing skills obviously.

That's not true :rip: Were you not here when the Eras Tour began? People on this website were quite literally dragging her for not having enough choreography and for just "walking around" singing/playing the guitar :rip: Bitter stans are just looking for a reason to complain, and since they can't complain about the critical reception or Taylor's success, this is what they latch on.

Taylor's fine with the mocking of her dance moves, which again, are play-acting a role, not to be taken seriously.

The unhinged Swifties are a different story. They're the ones worth mocking, not her.

This is true of the Swifties, but a lot of other things as well. Just look at how angrily a lot of Barbie fans are lashing out at critics right now. When you're more than just a fan of something, when it actually comes to define a part of your identity, then criticism seems to feel like a personal attack. A lot of stans seem to struggle with people disliking something they love for that reason.

No it’s true. She’s not that talented. She can’t really sing or dance. From clips that I have seen she doesn’t really have stage pretense either. Her music is mediocre and basic and her lyrics are embarrassing and tacky. People are just afraid to say it cause her deranged and psychotic cult of Swiffers or whatever will attack you.

I have conflicting thoughts on this subject matter.

1) @Planet Mars post is a thread highlight and nailed it. The writers always go harder on the female fanbases than sports fan or male fanbases. This article feels like someone's mad diary excerpt.  If you don't like Taylor personally, just ignore her and move on.

2) HOWEVER, I do, at the same time, also think, however delusional and whacky this writer's opinion is, they have the right to express their opinion without getting their entire career destroyed by a fanbase. There is an issue with stans in general, not just Taylor fans, being extremely hostile and attempting to ruin the lives of any dissenters. Considering how positive most public perception of her is rn in general, it's just a waste of the fans' time and energy, and not necessary at all. Just ignore this person and enjoy your fave, no one cared about her opinion yesterday and no one will care tomorrow whether you go after her or not. But it's just not worth vicious doxxing and drags I'm sure is coming her way. A lose-lose situation for all parties involved.

Again, this is not a Swiftie-exclusive issue, but any large fanbase with passionate stans online... I  think it's more noticeable with her rn because her fanbase is just so extremely large, it's unfortunately inevitable behavior. Stan behavior on social media has gotten really unfortunate.

Why is this reported ? :rip:

I get why some Swifties can get defensive. They're defending their fave but at the same time, from the perspective of someone who lives in a country where Taylor Swift is a flop and no one cares about her, witnessing the immense success her fanbase is getting her in the US is really impressive and scary at the same time. At the end of the day, music is subjective and people are allowed not to enjoy her work. That writter is writting what many people think but are scared to say because of the backlash they would get.

No one here is defending that kind of deranged behavior, so I'm not sure why you keep posting her tweets. Obviously no one deserves death threats over sharing their (wrong) opinion. You wouldn't be this loud if this was about your fave. Your intentions are quite clear, you're not even being subtle about it :rip:

To me, Taylor Swift is just fine. And there will be plenty more like her. But somehow the universe is in a collective trance, unable to admit it.

This part!!!!!

Do y'all actually read articles about any of these alleged groups?

Sports fans are mercilessly dragged by writers in the field...

After all the media has put her through she def deserves the hype and critics deserve to be bashed - they were tolerated enough LOL

What kind of childish thought process is this?

Taylor hasn't faced even a fraction of what other pop girls have endured.

If that logic was to be followed, Madonna, Janet, Britney should be experiencing this hype at this stage of their career too.

Intentions for what? I don’t get why you’re upset over tweets, which is more aimed at Swifties behaviour than Taylor.

It’s not like TS can control her fans behavior, but I find it funny that we continually see harassment from Swifties like this, but then if we say her acclaim is compromised by this we get called haters.
