He used to get dragged for wearing floral patterns to red carpets because it men simply didn't do that in 2015 (and before anyone thinks I'm claiming that he was trendsetting or the first one to do it, no, there were plenty of men before him in the 70s and 80s and 90s, and then masculinity got resetted for some god forsaken reason, until the 80s straight men wearing crop tops was seen as normal, but even today a man in a crop top = gay, imagine back in 2015)

He started painting his nails and taking it off before 1D gigs in 2013. This is a collage by a fan but lower right is his hand during a 1D signing, it had red nail polish on the edges (this was 2013), upper, middle. and lower left are both from 2014, he had clear top coat and one single nail painted yellow. Then in 2015 he started wearing red in one nail in each hand (upper and middle right)

This was in 2016 he had red nails for his first solo photoshoot with Another Man (can't find a pic but they were maroon/dark red) and then he wore black nail polish to the after party

He did very light pink nails towards the end of 2017 and it wasn't until 2018 when he started to paint his nails a ton of colors that were very showy. And to this day he gets comments about how feminine that is.

 

Was he wearing dresses in 1D? No. But he NEVER cared about that sort of thing and ALWAYS had a quirky fashion. You think he woke up a solo artist and decided to fall head first into a dress? His fans know it's genuine because it's been slowly building up since he was 16 years old. It means zero about his sexuality, just leave him alone wearing whatever he wants. He isn't bothering anyone lmao

I’m not going to comment on Billy, but it’s ridiculous that it was a straight man instead of a real queer person. LGBTQIA+ folk have been simping for the fashion industry and propping it up behind the scenes for probably a century, we are worth more than constantly being used but not credited, always on the side never front and centre.
 

It’s humiliating that a straight man gets it, especially one who is the living embodiment of the fact that the bar is so low for straight men that if they step slightly outside of the box they’ll be worshipped as groundbreaking and if anything make more money and find more success. For queer people it’s a completely different story and success is much harder to find, and if anything we’re punished for stepping outside of the stereotypical roles straight people want us to fit into.

 

That said the major players in the fashion industry are a disgusting cesspool of abuse, trauma, eating disorders, sycophants and narcissists so it’s nothing to aspire to be part of anyway.
