barbiegrande Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 Idk why it’s taboo to say this, but I think Hot Pink is her best album. Lyrically, it’s clever and she’s just having fun. Very memorable hooks. Great production. Every song has something to enjoy. 5
Nashe Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 I finally got around to listening to it (Kylie had my whole attention.mp3) and it's the perfect background music-album. I couldn't tell you one song title besides the singles and I don't even need to, it's perfect for what it is

Dialamba Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 The 1st time I listened HP I was amazed by each track. Also streets is a timeless song. Never aged. 2
TryMe Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 For me this album doesn't have much replay value. I don't think it's bad like some of you. But I don't feel the need to put it on like PH and HP. And I love Doja ....
Jormungand Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 (edited) This is just my opinion, but Planet Her felt like an extension of Hot Pink. Like those two albums could co-exist with ease. Hot Pink is pure fun, I loved Planet Her because it spoke to my teenage years that are long gone, but Scarlet speaks to something deeper. Doja is in her prime and she doesn't give 2 fucks. I clocked 200+ streams so figured I'd write a review. Paint The Town Red is such a clean introduction into the world of Scarlet. She's shedding the Pink and going Red. This track isn’t anything special despite it being the track that’s carrying this album. It's catchy and has replay value. 8/10 Demons is my absolute favorite track on this album. It's so chaotic and I can tell this is going to be a highlight for her if she performs it on a tour! I can see the mosh pits already and the live is probably going to incorporate a mean guitar like she did with her VMA performance. The production on this track is demonic! 10/10 Wet ****** is so cunty! I ******* love it and it follows so well after Demons and that's something I love entirely with this album. Majority of the tracks sound like their own, but they flow into each other so well. 9/10 **** The Girls (FTG) is a hit or miss for me. Not a bad track and it sounds like a **** you to her haters, the two-faced fans, and the GP. 6.5/10 Ouchies is such a fun track. If you're still doubting Doja as a rapper, on this track she demonstrates her playful & quirky side by riding the beat so deliciously. Missy Elliot is undoubtedly all over this track spiritually. 7/10 97 is another favorite of mine on this album. This is such a late night cruiser track, something you can 🚬 to. One of the many things I love about Doja Cat is she's not afraid to play with her voice. That head voice is purrfect and petite, but when she goes into her chest voice it's raw and commanding. Who needs nicotine when your pen game is this addictive. 9/10 Gun goes brrr. Doja glides on this track nasty, and still leaves it sounding fresh. A definite favorite of mine, the track doesn't need to do too much because it's Doja on the beat, anyone else and they'd be fighting to speak life to a track like this. 8/10 Go Off feels like a love letter. It's like Doja is reminding herself that she's that ***** and she'll forever be that ***** and she's about her business. She's got a confidence about her, and she can step into a room with the likes of royalty and well connected people and still be secure in herself. 9/10 Shutcho is another hit or miss for me. I feel like it's longer than it needs to be. The production is clean, love the sample, it's the lyrics I can't really connect with. I felt like she said a lot without really saying much of anything. 6.5/10 Agora Hill is an absolute monster of a track. Doja and her team knew they were sitting on a gold mine. This is another favorite late night cruiser track of mine. The music video was masterfully done. If you're a 90s baby, this is going to strike a lot of chords. It's giving Tumblr, Toonami, Cam Girl, Winx Club, Anime, Takis Girl, Barbie, and so much more. This is going to be such a controversial take, but this feels and sounds like a spiritual twin sister to Kiss It Better by Rihanna. 10/10 Can't Wait feels like a love letter to her man. I can only hope it's not that dusty white dude, but that ain't our business. Imma pretend it's me talking about my best friend because I'm delulu like that🥴 8/10 Often is such a neo-soul R&B inspired track. Doja is letting y'all know she's an ARTISTE! It giving Jill Scott and Erykah Badu vibes, but it still manages to be uniquely Doja. Such an easy listen, another late night cruiser track. 8/10 Love Life is a top 7 track for me. Doja is declaring her peace. She's in a good head space regardless of the antics, she has a solid support system and she's not so caught up in all the negativity because she's too busy loving & living life. Not only is this a late night cruiser, but it's giving rich ***** late night cruises in your Rolls-Royce while your chauffeur drives you through the Parisian countryside and your man is eating you out and you're high on edibles. 10/10 Skulls and Bones sounds like a twisted ode to Bone Thugs-N-Harmony's song Thuggish Ruggish Bone. The lyrics, the production, the harmonies, all of it really speaks to the soul. She has a lot to say on this track and if you aren't paying attention, you'll miss the gems she drops. 10/10 Attention is such a great track that honestly would've done fine anywhere on the album. This track was the opening to an era so I have so much more appreciation for it now that we have the full-body of work. I don't find myself often listening to this track on its own, it really plays well when you're listening to the album in its entirety. The harp that plays all throughout this track is so magical. 9/10 Balut follows up really nice to Attention. The production is top-tier, the lyrics are executed with bravado, and she's letting you know she's a different beast at this stage. 9.5/10 WYM Freestyle is another favorite of mine on this album, it's like she's saying "Yeah I ******* ate this **** with this album, so watch me talk my ****!✌️🚭♥️⛩️🔥👠🪭💄🎯" Such a unapologetic way to end what is a masterpiece of an album. My biggest wish is for this track to have continued for like 10 more minutes! 10/10 OVERALL RATING: 9 OUT OF 10 Each track has something to offer and individually they all sound sonically different, but still come together to form a cohesive body of work. Scarlet is my contender for album of the year. I now understand why she feels a type of way about Planet Her and Hot Pink, but those 2 albums are still her babies. Scarlet is quite literally the antithesis to Planet Her and Hot Pink so I understand why some fans are divided and might gravitate to tracks like Agora Hill while paying most of the album dust. I just need the weirdos to stop trying to box Doja Cat in as a singles artist though, Scarlet proves that she can masterfully craft an album! Edited October 2, 2023 by Jormungand 3

popularmoonlight Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 After lots and lots and lots of listening to this, I’ve concluded that Often and Love Life are the only disposable tracks. I’m sure they’re good, but I don’t know, sometimes they just feel too much for me in a way. And also, I really wanted to rearrange the tracklist, there’s possibly a better way to order the tracks. I need to find out still. If y’all have done that please post it in here!!
hallucinate Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 (edited) can’t wait is a massive grower Edited October 2, 2023 by hallucinate 1

TYMPS Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 (edited) I've been listening to this nonstop, it's giving cvnty mixtape - we need more risks like this in pop (adjacent) music! Skull & Bones is the biggest grower ("a ***** cryin' with full face / that's animal cruelty" ), Agora Hills is Heaven, and Demons is still so underrated (VMA Performance was next level) I knowwww she wanted this to be featureless (and I get why), but the album could have been elevated with a few (just a few!!). Like, yall are right, Often could really be saved with a Badu feature, a Solange feature ... Love Life tho... I don't know how to salvage her, maybe shoulda been an interlude Edited October 3, 2023 by TYMPS 1
hallucinate Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 FTG is lowkey overrated almost everyone in here was stanning it upon release and now it feels like nobody is even mentioning it
