This actually benefits Barbie + Oppenheimer, as their competition is not allowed to do promo while they already got the word out very well about their imminent releases.
Genie in a Bottle Posted July 13, 2023 Posted July 13, 2023 I have a bad feeling this is going to drag on a lot longer than most think. The sociopathic executives seem hellbent on maintaining the status quo. We’re going to lose out on a lot of real human talent, and I fear that the golden age of media has truly ended. Everything will eventually be replaced by AI anyway.

We’ve talked about disruptive forces on this business and all the challenges we’re facing, the recovery from COVID which is ongoing, it’s not completely back. This is the worst time in the world to add to that disruption,” Iger said. “I understand any labor organization’s desire to work on behalf of its members to get the most compensation and be compensated fairly based on the value that they deliver. We managed, as an industry, to negotiate a very good deal with the directors guild that reflects the value that the directors contribute to this great business. We wanted to do the same thing with the writers, and we’d like to do the same thing with the actors. There’s a level of expectation that they have, that is just not realistic. And they are adding to the set of the challenges that this business is already facing that is, quite frankly, very disruptive.” Iger said that while he respects the right of the unions to “get as much as they possibly can in compensation for their people,” they must “be realistic about the business environment, and what this business can deliver.” Iger continued, “It will have a very, very damaging affect on the whole business, and unfortunately, there’s huge collateral damage in the industry to people who are supportive services, and I could go on and on. It will affect the economy of different regions, even, because of the sheer size of the business. It’s a shame, it is really a shame.” Iger’s comments come the day after it was announced that he will remain the CEO of Walt Disney Co. through 2026, instead of stepping down at the end of next year as originally planned. This is so tone deaf and out of touch. ******* douche bag.

Now everyone will consume entertainment from other countries and find out that it's much better than what Hollywood have been delivering in recent times. That’s fine Netflix provides a lot of that content and makes it accessible. There the real reason this strike is happening. warner bros last merger means they have a lot of reality tv to provide now. Disney might suffer a bit
Broken Posted July 13, 2023 Posted July 13, 2023 “The endgame is to allow things to drag on until union members start losing their apartments and losing their houses,” a studio executive tells Deadline. WTF
PennywiseTheClown Posted July 13, 2023 Posted July 13, 2023 I fully support this, let the corporate pigs pay the actual artists who make them money what they deserve On another note, Dune Part 2 has finished filming right? 1

Nebur Posted July 13, 2023 Posted July 13, 2023 actors and athletes should not earn more than doctors and teachers I still prefer Asian content 80%+ -------------------------- although I agree with the strike, as a worker I know that it is demotivating to work so much and be poorly paid
Baby Judas Posted July 13, 2023 Posted July 13, 2023 what does no further promo means? So the girlies from Barbie will stop doing promo now? weird. It's time for Asian contents to rule the world!

If they earn less, all of that money will go somewhere, it's not like it's gonna disappear 1
