This would be so cool. I've never seen a korean show but I would love if that aspect of TV would be a little bit more diverse.

Here in germany it's mostly US and german productions

really? thought kdramas are trend in almost every country

if you are ok or just used to reading subtitles kdrama is really good, fixed and compact, not dragging.

This is insane, but I stand for the actors and writers. I am admittedly uneducated into this so please bear with my ignorance but from my understanding, the actors are asking for fair compensation, which they deserve. Is it an unreasonable ask? Hopefully we can know more. The studios better help the industry, otherwise it will definitely crumble. (Although I doubt it, it's all business for them I guess)

Money really makes the world go round huh.

It's not an unreasonable ask because most actors are indeed struggling. Some actors can't even afford health insurance. After completing a job, they've got to pay their agents, their team, their taxes, and of course their cost of living is going to be significant.

Many actors sacrifice countless hours on set and sleep in trailers during filming or sleep in the parking lots of the studios where their current projects are being filmed. Some of them have to sleep in nearby motels or hotels because many of them simply cannot afford to rent, especially in this economy, all to complete a short-term project. As soon as they wrap up 1 project, they'll be lucky if they can even find work in a few months before what little they have runs out.

So unless you come from money or you're an established actor that can command higher paying roles like Meryl Streep or Brad Pitt, you're not going to make bank in Hollywood as an actor.

We need Joker II to come save the industry :clap3:

Does this affect filming overseas like Wicked in the UK with American actors? @Blade Runner

Yes this affects all production involving SAG members. Everything is required to shut down.

A big part of this is the AI thing. Studios want actors to start signing rights to their likenesses away so AI can eventually be used to replace them. SAG is a definitive no on that.

Barbie got lucky already having most of its hype and promo out of the way, but it and Oppenheimer will have to shut down any further premieres or press.

What are these good scripts? :lakitu: Any examples, as you seem to have good taste?

With just movies Interstellar, US, Get Out, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Annihilation, Knives Out, and plenty more all came out in the last 10 years and that’s just trying to name a few off the top of my head

VARIETY: Disney CEO Bob Iger Says Writers and Actors Are Not Being ‘Realistic’ With Strikes: ‘It’s Very Disturbing to Me’

During an appearance on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” on Thursday morning, Disney CEO Bob Iger said that the writers and actors unions going on strike in Hollywood are not being “realistic” with their expectations.

“It’s very disturbing to me. We’ve talked about disruptive forces on this business and all the challenges we’re facing, the recovery from COVID which is ongoing, it’s not completely back. This is the worst time in the world to add to that disruption,” Iger said. “I understand any labor organization’s desire to work on behalf of its members to get the most compensation and be compensated fairly based on the value that they deliver. We managed, as an industry, to negotiate a very good deal with the directors guild that reflects the value that the directors contribute to this great business. We wanted to do the same thing with the writers, and we’d like to do the same thing with the actors. There’s a level of expectation that they have, that is just not realistic. And they are adding to the set of the challenges that this business is already facing that is, quite frankly, very disruptive.”

Iger said that while he respects the right of the unions to “get as much as they possibly can in compensation for their people,” they must “be realistic about the business environment, and what this business can deliver.”

Iger continued, “It will have a very, very damaging affect on the whole business, and unfortunately, there’s huge collateral damage in the industry to people who are supportive services, and I could go on and on. It will affect the economy of different regions, even, because of the sheer size of the business. It’s a shame, it is really a shame.”

Iger’s comments come the day after it was announced that he will remain the CEO of Walt Disney Co. through 2026, instead of stepping down at the end of next year as originally planned.

This is a mistake for Hollywood. Now everyone will consume entertainment from other countries and find out that it's much better than what Hollywood have been delivering in recent times.
