If it’s not coming tomorrow, I’ll believe she hates her self written album.

I think it’s muscle memory now that I’m refreshing her store every couple of hours :rip:

I just want a signed one because I have one of the signed Folklore CDs and I’d love to have a signed copy of both of my favorite albums. :bird:

Yeah I’m pretty nihilistic when it comes to romance but she gives me hope every now and then :rip: Like she sings about it so passionately and in so many complex ways that I just have to believe I could find that some day.

No credit necessary. I don’t want to catch Emma’s disease so don’t put me and her in the same sentence  :cm:

Taylor’s Versions where applicable, of course. Kind of rough, not static, but basically where things stand for me. But I expect debut to leap at least 7-9 when re-recorded, maybe even a little more. Speak Now jumped about as high as I expected - in the long run it and Folklore will probably settle into the same groove and swap places depending on the day, but the nostalgia associated with Speak Now could keep it ahead - plus it has so many TS classics. Last Kiss, Dear John, Mine, and Back To December especially - and now, Never Grow Up, too. Actually, not counting I Can See You since it’s so different, those are probably my top five songs on the album.

I find it so hard to separate folklore+evermore and rank them differently.

They do have slightly different identities (with folklore being about reflection/grieving and evermore being more about closure/acceptance)

and different strengths/weaknesses (folklore has really high highs and basically no lows but plays it a little safe, evermore is a little more experimental and has high highs but also juuuust a couple lows, but that comes with the risk of venturing into different sonic territory)

But I’d rather just rank them as one album :chick3: So that my top 3 still has room for Speak Now and Red lmao

1. folk+more (perfect musical outputs by all accounts)

2. Red (highest of highs, a few more lows, but EXTREMELY emotionally and conceptually realized)

3. Speak Now (consistent, little to no lows, VERY high highs)

4. Midnights (her best pop album sorry gworls)
5. Fearless (just way too solid, from start to finish it’s a great album. The vault tracks do drag it down a little)

6. reputation (this is still my favorite era but musically it’s down here, technically it could swap with 89 but my bias keeps it here lol)

7. 1989 (stronger singles but some weaker album tracks..)

8. Lover (stronger album tracks but weak singles except CS & kind of Lover)

9. Debut (good in theory but obviously just a first effort)

I think because of their temporal and creative proximity, it's perfectly valid to combine them. Evermore is often treated as an extension of Folklore even in respectful ways, so it makes sense - though I think there are those who diminish and disregard it with the same strategy, sometimes.

I think that the biggest difference for me - and the reason I find it very difficult to combine them, opposite to what you describe - is that Evermore is so much less proper, poised, controlled. When you hit play on Folklore, from start to finish you're getting a very specific and curated version of Taylor. It's a brilliant version of her and one of my favorite things ever to happen - like, listening to Folklore for the first time was mind-blowing. But there's a common thread there that keeps you in one relatively particular lane, this poetic, almost cinematic experience. Even Mad Woman is controlled, directed, and wise in its palpable contempt and fury. With Evermore, though, it felt like she lifted the restraints that were placed on Folklore, and we watch her meander a little further from the path both emotionally and sonically. I could see pretty much any Folklore song on Evermore, but I couldn't see most Evermore songs on Folklore, if that makes sense. Maybe Willow or Tolerate it, but certainly not Gold Rush or Marjorie.

It could just be me making up things, but I see direct parallels from Speak Now to Folklore and from Red to Evermore. In each case, the first (Speak Now, Folklore) has a more consistent sound and attitude, while the latter (Red, Evermore) jumps around, plays with more obviously synthetic pop sounds, and delves deeper into heartbreak as a theme. I think part of what remains so compelling about Evermore for some of us, compared to Folklore, is that it cuts directly into our own experiences and feelings. Of the two, Evermore is definitely the younger sister who has a glass of wine in her hand for the entire Christmas party, who hugs you one too many times and shares one or two too many things that are too honest about her emotional state.

I could literally write for hours and hours about these two albums and about why I love Evermore so much, so let me just stop myself while I'm ahead.

I will say that other than that, your ranking is pretty close to mine, which is super cool!
