A nugu company hiring I'm Sang Hyuk (RBW) songwriter and producer and Yummy Tone (BIG SANCHO, ex CUBE main producer) to produce the debut of their girl group. But then told them to do their own choreography to get into the budget, but the girls comes up with The BEST GG choreography of the year. :deadbanana4:

Is it just gonna be Cupid on the Barbie soundtrack or

I honestly do not buy the whole “rags to riches” story from Fifty Fifty. They have a very strong team behind them who are very connected in the industry and that’s okay! I feel like everything was planned with Cupid such as having an English version etc. cause why would a supposed nugu gg release an English song if the company claim that they never intended to break through the West?
Again I’m not saying that the success of Cupid isn’t organic or anything cause it really is the most organic global Kpop hit since Gangnam Style. They just also had a very strong team behind them like the ones we see in the Big 4 companies.

Other groups like XG are in the same boat, and they also have a very strong team behind them as well, and you can see how much thought and money went into the whole project etc.

Spoiler

Did I spill, nugu king? @harrythevifan

Sunoo has always been stunning though, so i think this comment is a bit weird.

i still dont want to acknowledge that joke of a song's existence. like how could they make something so uncatchy and stale after moonlight sunrise? :jonny5:

It’s not that bad tbh, it’s enjoyable on its own. But for us as fans, the retro disco sound is overdone at this point so were turned off from the beginning.

anyway as someone said, we went from Feels-Scientist and Moonlight Sunrise-Set Me Free, so there is a pattern clearly :gaycat2:

SM should hire them as choreographers for RV and Aespa.

A lot of nugu groups put English, japanese or Chinese version of their song in their album.

Fifty Fifty management was actually smart because the group was actually in 5 different list of groups to watch out for in 2023, including Rolling Stones, Paper, Mashable and even were the group with the highest rating in IZM ever and had one of the best rated album in 2022 from some indie music magazine in the US.

They had no traction in Japan and China so their best bet was to go for an English version since there was already articles about them saying they would be the next big thing.

Now the thing were i get a little bit suspicious, the CEO of the company is the ex CEO of HOTSHOT's company so they had some coins from Produce 101 and they did have pretty damn good connection with other companies.

Every single company and group, nugu or not, would LOVE to break through the West, hence why English versions

And the English version of the songs doesn't always mean it will get pushed or have success (example: Set Me Free)

I love how they always tease their whole album by making one big mashup

And when you look at the members of Fifty Fifty

Keena the main rapper sang an OST 3 years ago

And was a background vocalist and a guide vocalist for other kpop songs

I  think every group wants to break to the west nowadays, nugu or not. So putting out English versions of songs is nothing out of the ordinary. What was different here is that Cupid went so outrageously viral that it started reaching even people who have never listened to kpop before. And I don’t think the company expected this to happen at this level tbh. They might have a strong team indeed and it’s a good thing, but i wouldnt be jailed for thinking that a bulk of its success came unexpectedly and without planning.

Like if something goes viral it goes viral. There’s really no controlling that and especially the height of the vitality. If it was that easy every group would be smashing like that. :dies:

Like where did the money he made, for 30+ years from singing, acting, producing and writing, go!?

connections help, but they don’t guarantee a breakthrough

Brave Girls languishing in nugudom for almost a decade (different lineups but whatever) before going viral is a great example
