5. Giving the World Away - Hatchie

(April 22, 2022)

This album is such a blissful trip of an album. A really good dreampop record right here. Everything on this album is just pure bliss, from the production to the vocals there just isn't a moment where it feels half-baked or boring, it's all pure quality and the way Hatchie culminates the sounds of Dream-Pop and Shoegaze into these Dance flourishes and ideas is nothing short of impressive, and it makes for some fantastic songs generally.

It's just a good f*cking record and it's definitely gonna be one to remember in terms of Dream-Pop genre for me.

4. BADモード - Hikaru Utada

(January 19, 2022)

While mixing languages together on an album can come across as a forced attempt to appeal to two different audiences simultaneously, this isn't the case for this album. The production on this album is quite great as well. The way Utada creates a very lush, club-like atmosphere with songs like "One Last Kiss" and "BADモード" via production is outstanding and makes more a slick, smooth, and overall very gripping listen.

Overall, I enjoyed my time with this album and it showed how much Utada matures as an artist, their music only improves.

3. The Forever Story (Extended Version) - JID

(October 31, 2022)

Most people know JID from his collabs with Dua Lipa, "Not My Problem" and Imagine Dragons’ “Enemy”. Needless to say, I wasn’t particularly expecting much from this. Thankfully, I was dead wrong.

The album is personal, introspective, energetic, and fun. The features are great. Tracks transition smoothly between one-another, making it feel like a consistent experience throughout; despite the album varying wildly in sounds and styles.

Overall, a great experience sonically and it tells a great story. I think JID has taken his place as one of the greatest in the game with this album and I'm excited to see where he goes from here.

Once Twice Melody - Beach House

This album has some of my all time favorite Beach House songs. They have absolutely mastered their craft and I'm not sure where they go from here.

 

The beauty of Once Twice Melody is how there are 18 songs here and each one has the potential to be an individual listener's special favorite. There are the obvious highlights but so many gems all throughout.

 

So this does not only sound like Beach House’s most recent magnum opus, but also as dream pop’s most recent masterpiece.

You may find this placement is too predictable but my god this album is truly the best pop albums of the year 

 

Bey's way of working through the dance-pop/house styled record coming off the heels of "Lemonade" is honestly exceptional. Every song feels smoothly put together and there's no jarring changes in tone or sound quality despite all the people and samples involved, which suggests a level of care of her.

 

Honestly can't wait to see what Act II of this sounds like
