scot954 Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 Not a huge fan of this compared to their amazing previous album
ATRL Moderator Ampersand13 Posted March 15, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted March 15, 2023 Way of Nature is one of the prettiest songs they've ever released in my opinion, have only had the chance to listen through once but am definitely a big fan of this record!
Rigalo Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 Haven’t listened yet BUT I did just order a touch of the beat deluxe vinyl a masterpiece truly

The lyrics are really pretty, I agree, but the overall production and melodies are meh to me, even boring. Maybe it will grow on me? Overall it is a GREAT album but it just doesn't reach the same highs as their previous album. A Touch of the Beat has bop after bop. In this one there are like 3-4 bops, I expected more even though there are many mid/low tempos, I mean look at the ballads of AToTB even they have amazing melodies that made me bop (looking at you Stomach, always makes me dance while feeling depressed af). After my first play I can only look forward to play Blue Dress again because oh man that one sounds a lot like Landslide at some parts and I say it as a good thing. Talking in My Sleep and Sunchoke are other two standouts. Also After Hours and Tear the Night Up are pretty nice. Need to play this more, I'm Enjoying it a lot but that's what happens when you release a great album after a very very flawless previous album.
Scandalous Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 hmmm it’s fine, definitely will be a grower but needed more bops. very Orville Peck ish can’t see myself coming back to this one nearly as much as their others
BlackJesus Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 such a beautiful album. i can't wait to listen to it on a hot summer night
Roger Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 Any Apple Music users here? Is the album in Hi-Res or Dolby Atmos available there? Because the album is in none of those formats on Amazon Music 😢 Only AToTB is available on Hi-Res

Aimen Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 The album is a huge step down from their last album for me I'm saving 6 months , the title track and talking in my sleep
normanikordeix Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 Its a really beautiful album, I do think some of the chorus’ are a bit too one-line repetitive. But it is very beautiful overall. Great quality and instrumentation favs - open to something - love you this way - with love from - tear the night up
DancingShoes Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 This is such a summer album and I hate that it's so cold right now. I think it's a more mellow reflection of ATOTB. It's almost a nighttime version of that album. I do wonder if the sequencing of the album would help with people's initial reception of it though. All of the ~boppier~ tunes are shoved in near the end. However, their voices are beautiful across the album though they do drown a bit in AH and BLYHD. Sunchoke is a highlight and I think it could be a grower album.
Wrecked Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 Just finished my first play-through of the album and I was so sad when it ended as I was genuinely enjoying every track. I love that it gave me hints of ATOTB whilst also sounding like its own thing. There were no weak tracks. 6 Months of Staring Into the Sun is easily one of the best songs they’ve ever released. It reminded me a lot of my favourite singer Aimee Mann. I’m not sure if that was intentional or not, but I definitely hear a similarity. It’s almost impossible for me to choose a top 5 right now, but my standout track is definitely Sunchoke.
Wrecked Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 I’M ON THE RUN I’m so mad at myself I could choke the sun I FEEL THE HEAT And it’s burning up the soles of my feet

Schami66 Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 Im on my first listen and I can already tell that this will be my favorite album by them. This is what I thought the last album would sound like after playing Slow Dancing (a thousand times).
computer.boy Posted March 15, 2023 Author Posted March 15, 2023 Gorgeous record overall. I agree that this is a step down from "ATOTB" but it's still pretty decent, the ballads are cute, not my fave tracks on the record but they're not terrible, I don't really care for "After Hours / Love You This Way", though. "Talking In My Sleep" could've been a 10/10 but it it's missing the pre-chorus, still a bop, though! Top three: - Sunchoke. - Open to Something and That Something Is You. - Talking In My Sleep / Baby, Lay Your Head Down.
computer.boy Posted March 15, 2023 Author Posted March 15, 2023 Also, loving the 60's / 70's vibes from "Blue Dress", it feels very Sarah Klang-esque, for the people who enjoyed that track: Spoiler

K$Ellie Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 actually kinda cute, just doesn't compare to their last album
