Cruel Summer Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 So with “1.4m+” via Luminate she officially surpasses Britney’s Oops! for second biggest week among women; she passes herself for the highest since 25; and she passes The Eminem Show for sixth biggest debut in US history (in the Soundscan era). In terms of pure sales, with 1.07m, it seems like she’ll end the week by taking the place of Born This Way as the 14th biggest pure sales debut in the Soundscan era, or one spot below (1.108m). She increases her solely held record for most million-selling and million-unit weeks from four to five; I believe only Adele has three and after that only *NSYNC and BSB have two each.

Hector Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 So the second biggest female tally including all activity Britney looks like she'll still keep her #2 position when it comes to pure sales though with Oops!... I Did It Again (1.39M).

Ger Posted October 27, 2022 Author Posted October 27, 2022 I think it's going to pull 1.6M+. Damn Taylor, that's freaking insane, I say and I can't believe the implications that that has.

ABBA, Ed Sheeran and Taylor herself did it too. https://www.billboard.com/music/pop/adele-30-vinyl-manufacturing-delays-9655895/ It’s more that Adele herself brought attention to the manufacturing of her physical albums in interviews. Not saying it was deserved. 5 hours ago, Virtual_Insanity said: Yeah I have to agree. No one expected these numbers, not even her stans. I mean obviousy having the vinyl ready to go and shipped to count in the first week has helped enermously with week 1 where as for Folklore, if i remember correctly, the vinyl came much later and helped it return to number one a few times when they were released. No, the vinyl pre-orders of Folklore all counted for the first week, it was before that rule changed.
Holiest Dreams Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 Not the 30 comparisons over the vinyls Taylor actually sold the [insert massive number] she produced, and I’m not saying that to be shady towards Adele’s sales. But the situation is just not similar at all considering the difference in sales. Not to mention that happened during the peak of COVID delays, which was the real issue. Things have changed since, and if it were an issue; indie artists, stores, and the industry as a whole would be calling it out like they did with the other album. They aren’t though because there’s no issue and it’s not comparable. In any case, supply and demand will always be a thing. Taylor’s team produced very accurate stocks. I’m actually afraid they may have underproduced which will harm the following weeks, which could also see massive vinyl sales. Hopefully it’s not an issue, because while these are massive debut numbers for the album and her following weeks will be huge too no matter what… I’d like to see how the vinyls sell long term (not that it matters since I think Midnights broke the yearly sales record in one week alone )

Pleeny Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 Lover watching this and wondering what would've, could've, should've happened if Taylor didn't set it up for failure

Although I really liked all the lead singles after Lover.

I think gaga's record can be discarded since it wasn't done fairly.
pierreleswiftie Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 Also the difference with Adele is that she had 6 years to plan the whole record and instead we all know she was lazy and didn't plan anything is advance. Unlike Taylor that's constantly working and making new music, so her clogging of vinyl factories makes more sense than adele.
liquiddiamonds Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 (edited) Scrambling for drags by now. Just sit down and eat y’all food instead lol ot: taylor having rappers shook Edited October 27, 2022 by liquiddiamonds

Also there was no streaming back then so the only form of consumption was physical sales really. Taylor's pure are more impressive because there are so many ways to listen to an album now compared to the early 2000s. Like pirating music has never been this easy, streaming music is basically free etc...yet ppl STILL chose to buy physical copies of her work. That's beyond impressive. Brit's record is still amazing too of course! It's just Taylor's is NEXT LEVEL imo. The only thing more impressive is obviously Adele's 25 numbers. That was just...mind blowing and will never be challenged ever.

Completely agree I'm both a Taylor and Adele stan and i LOVE seeing the records they've both broken, always great to see amazing female artists doing well. But yeah i don't think 25's sales milestones will EVER be broken, that's literally something that only ever happen once. Edited October 27, 2022 by Enrique523
ariananext Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 OMG? The fact that she is still hitting peaks 16 years into her career is insane
