Wondy Lust Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 That's actually incredible, honestly middle of the pack for me in terms of her discog but amazing nonetheless

Mr. Duff Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 This is INSANE. I had so much of a conservative prediction at 800k for the whole week, and she did this in a day? Will never doubt Taylor ever again. Abd the album is soo good, it’s a huge grower and I believe it’s top five, possibly top three in her discography. Is there news if Folklore and Red TV can come back to top ten of BB200?

Only taylor can make an era like 1989 pale in comparison to new era's 8 years later. I feel like this could be her highest first week sales figure of all-time and that she can pull 25 numbers. 800k in one day with pure sales only? In the streaming climate? shes literally sick What "era" lol? She is gonna dip from existence after Norton/tour announcement only to appear again after all her tour rehearsals only to hook us into some pyramid scheme for tour tickets lol. (Jk/) I doubt this is the highest repeak of hers yet. She still has her SuperBowl chip to cash in next era after TSTV debuts with like 40-50 songs and a U2 TS11 rock album ala State of Grace. She already has several music videos filmed so expect at least 4-5 MV's judging by the teaser. She will have more top 10 hits than 1989 upon the album debut week. She will likely surpass the 1989 first week sales unit. She will debut at #1 with Anti-Hero and its likely more songs might go #1. She broke infinite streaming records and records in general. Like this is not just her biggest era this is one of THE biggest eras ever.

She might have a bigger debut with Midnights but it won't catch up to 1989 in the long run. I would absolutely love to be proven wrong though, because for me Midnights is LEAGUES above 1989.

I dont mind not having a re-recording if she keeps pushing singles and goes on a tour promoting the album. At least until summer 2023
KatyPrismSpirit Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 (edited) Also it would be amazing to see one of the songs get Bad Blood (feat Kendrick) or Levitating (feat DaBaby) treatment to secure a hit with longevity. Imagine if a rapper like Drake remixes Vigilante **** or something. That would be so fun to see. I hope she fully utilizes the era and gives it FN level milking. Debut week top 10s from an album bomb isn't the same as the bonafide HITS off 1989, so no it's not surpassing that anytime soon. Especially in sales.
Milk Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 a CAREER rePEAK Taylor is never stopping. Literally the Music Industry.

Especially in sales. a top 10 hit is a top 10 hit and 1989 singles relied heavily on digital sales, radio and music videos. Nowadays singles rely on tiktok/playlisting, airplay and streams and tay has that box checked for midnights.

Taylor has always had a negative / controversial image for one reason another Speak Now: “cant sing, fakes being surprised” Red: “not making real country, serial dater” 1989: “greedy, calculated, local, the squad is annoying” reputation: Snakegate; everything Lover: ME! happened (YNTCD & the Man too honestly) but folklore and evermore rehabilitated her image as a serious musician and a respectable artist. (Critics and her peers) Fearless TV came in and re established the long-standing bond with her fanbase, banking on the nostalgia of those of us that have been around since 2008. (Her fanbase) and Red TV was just a SOLID album and reintroduction of Taylor into the public. (The GP) Now that shes collected the respect of the her peers and critics, solidified her fanbase’s love for her, and won over the GP for the first time in a longtime, Midnights is a perfect storm reaping all those rewards. This take. You hit the nail on the head. Also her increasing popularity with Gen Z and her random album tracks going viral/ gaining traction on Tik Tok definitely helped catapulted her superstardom to an even higher high post-1989. A cultural phenomenon.

Be serious for a second Remains to be seen if Taylor can get a proper hit from this album, her last true hit was from 1989. Britney had true global hits in 2008 and 2011 & 2012. 30 years from now the public will remember hit songs not albums that’s why Taylor getting 1M selling albums but failing to get true hits for years now is something to not be ignored. She seems to be more of the female Garth Brooks (massive album sales, but not global hits) than a Madonna or Britney aka a global hitmaker!
greeneyedsoul Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 Is it true that Swifties bought most of those 800k and that just 10 members of the general public consumed the album?

ATRL Moderator bluebirdsforever Posted October 23, 2022 ATRL Moderator Posted October 23, 2022 These are objectively insane numbers If she doesn't sell another pure copy this entire week and moves 300k+ streaming units (which is conservative) that's already... 1.3 million
charot Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 (edited) A force. Our faves (even Adele these days) could never. Edited October 23, 2022 by charot
L.B GAGA Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 I havent even heard the album but wow at those numbers. She really has suburban kids hooked on her. All the best to her
