I think it should be more balanced. Moderation is needed but there are times members have been banned instantly for saying one thing yet other members will make extremely offensive claims over and over but nothing happens.

To answer the topic's question: no, I prefer the forum to be moderated. I don't feel like there's actual censorship in here, you can talk pretty much about everything you want if you do it in a respectful manner.

It was more fun sometimes back when it was chaos and all, but removing all restrictions would be a wrong step. I think ZTP was a bit of an overcorrection from SYG, but I’m sure it’s a balancing act and in today’s political climate I understand erring on the side of caution online. 

 

 

That said, some of the comments people are up in arms about (in this thread even) are really not a big deal. People are reporting anything and everything, like… save it for the actual bad sh*t

It’s a shame *some* users ruined the cattiness that made this site more fun, but what can you do. All it would take is seeing some of the blue ivy threads on oldatrl to tell you enough.

That sounds absolutely awful. There’s already so many bigoted members who get away with spewing their vitriol here, I can’t imagine how much more of a cesspool this place would be if there was no moderation at all.
 

I would actually say the rules should be even tougher, honestly. ATRL is a place used predominantly by minority groups and as such the site should be a safe space with quite strict rules to cut out all the casual racism, transphobia, homophobia,  misogyny and general bigotry that gets thrown around.

There need to be moderators and rules however (and I hope all the mods are reading this) there's MOD BIAS and it's totally unfair and idiotic. My very first post on this forum in 2016 was to a Justin Bieber stan who was attacking Selena Gomez in one of her threads and I simply said Justin couldn't sing, and I got banned for 2 days like are you joking? Now I see the most dreadful of comments and users which I report regularly and they're still around and most of the time they don't even get warned. And don't get me started on the bias related to their own faves and how they hand pick which threads to close. Some of you are awful at what you do, sorry

Yes. Especially because the existing rules are applied inconsistently and without any real basis to ban people mods disagree with rather than to actually curb hate speech.
