forslayage Posted October 14, 2022 Posted October 14, 2022 (edited) (skip if you don't like reading.. needed to put this somewhere cuz I'm fearing for her career..) Call me delusional but feel like atp its clear Atlantic knows a hit won't come out of this album since MYTP didn't do as well as they wanted, and MDB is proving to show the same pattern. I think the tracklist got posted early because of the back cover leak, we've had the real updated tracklist for a few weeks now. I don't understand how they wouldn't have a plan to prevent the album from leaking the second they knew copies of the album were sent out earlier than the original release date even... or at least to move the release date back up after they delayed it? I think its also somewhat clear they delayed the album for the reason of the 1st single not doing as well as they wanted- but was it reasonable to delay it in the first place? And 3 months? When it was clear it was leaking already and going to be leaked soon? Not to write a think piece but this whole situation is so strange to me especially for it being her sophomore album. How are they able to promote any of the other major artists on their roster easily, but when it comes to Ava it's crickets? Somehow after the somewhat simple & strategic rollout for H&H, we get.. this mess. I feel like with the albums overall sound it also isn't hard to think the album's rollout could be very simple- as it is her sophomore album the sound isn't a major step up from H&H in my opinion (it's still great and I love it) which I think ultimately would make this album in the end harder to promote than H&H.. which could tie into the poor performance of the 2 only singles out right now from the album, and I'm sure the leak won't help if the album doesn't get moved up. Not sure if anyone else caught this either but last night for me when I twitter searched "Diamonds & Dancefloors" alone, or it with the word "leak" attached, almost all latest and more than half of the top tweets were just missing. It's clear they're trying to do damage control now- which is insane to me when they've had I think over a month?? to take down leaks by now. tl;dr: I know I'm just a fan but Atlantic (or whoever tf is managing this album rollout) doesn't know what they're doing.. oh at all!! It's clear they should release it at this point but I honestly doubt they care enough to since it seems the album delay is based off of the underperformance of both singles. if anyone that is from Atlantic or her team is reading this pls, STOP THE DRAMA. START THE MUSIC. Edited October 14, 2022 by forslayage

goldstargay Posted October 14, 2022 Posted October 14, 2022 This is a great pop album - they should just release it. IDK why these labels think these pop girls are gonna land a hit outside the gay clubs -- GP doesn't care as we have learned time after time of literal BOPS being paid to dust. speaking of dust... it would appear another one bit it.
skwonderfactory Posted October 14, 2022 Posted October 14, 2022 Just gave my first listen and here are my track-by-track thoughts: 1. "Million Dollar Baby": This is honestly quite an impressive opener and I can see why it kicks this record off. This was already pop greatness but in context of everything that proceeds it, it manages to even sound better. 8/10 2. "Sleepwalker": I llovvveeee this. The lyrics are are more unique then some others ("I'll have you on seven moons", the Murder, She Wrote reference, comparing herself to his motives, etc.) and the instrumental break is everything which gives major "Emotions" (her unreleased song) vibes. 10/10 3. "Maybe You're The Problem": I can see why this was the lead single but honestly it's the most sonically incohesive song here which is kind of odd. Also, lyrically, it's a lot more typical than many other songs. 7.5/10 4. "Ghost": Several of you seem to love this and I don't quite get the hype. I enjoy "Ghost" overall but it's nothing too amazing, though the pre-chorus may be the strongest one on Diamonds & Dancefloors. 7/10 5. "Hold Up (Wait A Minute)": The drop/post-chorus of this actually SLAPS and the "Da-da-da-da-da-da" of the hook gets stuck in your head instantly. I still can't understand what she says on some of the second half of the second verse but it's whatever I suppose. 8/10 6. "Weapons": I am a SUCKER for this basic pop perfection and the way the pre-chorus flows into the chorus feels so natural. I also love the "We’re nothing but some stardust and molecules / Tryna find the light in the darkest rooms" moment. 9/10 7. "Diamonds & Dancefloors": Mmmm... while I enjoy this, I feel over time the overarching sing-talking melody will get old. For being the title track/centerpiece of the album, it could use some more polish. The outro is a highlight of the album though. 8/10 8. "In The Dark": The second verse >>>>>>>>>> Wow, wow!!! The chorus of this becomes a bit repetitive as the song continues but again, that second verse may just be a career highlight thus far. 8.5/10 9. "Turn Off The Lights": Everything here is working for me, but I feel the actual chorus before that drop could have been punchier and have more spice lyrically. The distorted vocals on "Turn off the lights, turn off the–" is certainly a moment. 8/10 10. "One Of Us": I actually wish the dramatic atmosphere of the intro chorus was kept throughout the entire song, or at least on each chorus. The post-chorus is completely unnecessary and we could have gotten a bridge instead. 6.5/10 11. "Get Outta My Heart": It's interesting to hear the pre-chorus carried over to the post-chorus/drop; not something you see often in music. As much as I bopped the drop, I can see it becoming kinda stale soon. 7.5/10 12. "Cold As Ice": This is probably my favorite on the entire album. The verses are f*cking slick and the subtle vocal effects on the chorus are punchy in all the right ways. "Belladonna" vibes and I am LIVING for it! 10/10 13. "Last Night On Earth": I'm pretty sure the opening line of this is "I dance in cuts I needed" which is certainly a vivid lyric. I wish we got another chorus after the bridge (which almost acts like a refrain itself), but it is what it is. 7/10 14. "Dancing's Done": The entire atmosphere is very I'm-taking-you-to-the-edge-of-the-afterlife-at-the-end-of-the-longest-and-most-unforgettable-night-ever, which I believe is exactly what she is going for. Everything here just works and the outro took me to the dark dance church I didn't know I needed, so yes! 9.5/10 Overall, it's a solid pop album can be breeze through and just bop and I believe it's more consistent and overall stronger than Heaven & Hell. However, with that being said, I am annoyed at the absence proper bridges. Only three songs have bridges period–"Maybe You're The Problem", "Weapons" and "Last Night On Earth"–and none of them feel particularly well-thought with the exception of "Weapons". I get we are in the TikTok short attention span generation, but Heaven & Hell had "Kinds & Queens", "Naked", "Tattoo", "Call Me Tonight", "Born To The Night", "Torn", "Take You To Hell", "So Am I", "Sweet but Psycho", "My Head & My Heart", and even Japanese bonus track "Not Your Barbie Girl" all had pretty great bridges for the pop songs they are. Also, the imagery of heaven and hell continues on Diamonds & Dancefloors quite significantly and I would love to know Ava's fascination and beliefs with the afterlife/how close our experiences on Earth bring us to it. I truly hope she leaves Atlantic, has a solid tour next year, and moves into era number three in 2024 with an even stronger album (with actual bridges please!). I know a lot of people joke about Ava being not passionate about her music career but I believe she is, just not with her current management. I don't even think she's upset this album leaked, just disappointed.

Totami Legend Posted October 15, 2022 Posted October 15, 2022 from p*pj*stice Quote the imprint she was signed to (along with Charlie Puth, among others) seems to have cut ties with Atlantic in late 2020.
