Protocol Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Is this supposed to be meta? Because this video itself clearly is an attempt at the viral TikTok marketing. And considering how brutal of a decline her last album was, she needs it. No shade. Also who lied to her and told her she's sold 165 million records?! Maybe if you use some crazy streams-to-singles conversion formula and even then those are Rihanna-like numbers.
Johnny Jacobs Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 She's banking and having a career thanks to that label. I hate how ungrateful artists can't be sometimes. Her latest album flopped so they are right to strategies her next one. Hell most artists would love that. It's not like they're holding her music captive for years. Not Her complaining about creating a fake tiktok moment while posting her rant on tiktok Also 165mil I hardly think it's even 65mil
supertiffany Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 not the 165M unless she has more hits than Camila and Megan combined sure but she only like has hit songs of so little
Achilles. Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 I can’t believe they’re not letting a big act like Halsey release a Max Martin single because it’s not viral on Tik Tok.

Daddy Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 All of this is a lie. Halsey is a liar. Watch her add another disorder to her list because of this.

Did they all sign terrible contracts and are just label puppets, or are they all on the last album of their contract and desperate to be released or something? Not sure about the others, but this just feels like a pre planned promo stunt and hey look, maybe it worked, the media is reporting on this. This must be a big surprise to Halsey and her label too. @Villanelle you can update the first post, the anti-marketing marketing campaign appears to have worked. Next step is when she thanks for fans for helping her beat the system. Edited May 23, 2022 by Letemtalk
FAN Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 At the end of the day she’s a commercial artist signed to a major record label for one reason only: to make the label money. It’s a business. The last album she got complete creative freedom and the album had no hits and didn’t sell well. Labels don’t let major artists do that every single “era”. Tik tok is the new way to get songs out there and produce hits. You have to play the game.

But what she is doing is pretending that she isn't playing the game by apparently "rebelling" against her label, when in actual fact she is playing the game.

Next step is when she thanks for fans for helping her beat the system. Of course it worked because she has a huge following. Halsey is so brave for being unafraid to stand up against these white men in power and fight the good fight for all the smaller artists with the same problem. She is a hero
Bang Up Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Her claiming to have sold 165,000,000 records. But uh, this is very obviously a PR stunt so... I guess people are falling for it.
Mtjjproducer Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 I think that she might be telling the truth. There have been other artist that said their labels are forcing them to use TikTok to release their music. Jojo said it earlier this year that Warner was making her use the app. I heard someone else say Florence said the same thing. That would also explain why Charlie puth has become so shameless in his TikTok promotion when he was never like that before last year

Is it just one or two labels? Because there are a lot of artists who aren't forced to use TikTok at all, let alone promote their music on TikTok. Lorde is one (no doubt one of many) that doesn't use the app, she hasn't tweeted since 2018 (now deleted) and appears to have last updated her Instagram when she released her album back in August. She probably doesn't have 165M record sales either.
