Either way, Beyonce has been the bigger act since she debuted her solo album in 2003 :michael:

This analogy never made any sense. :rip:

How does comparing Beyoncé's DEBUT album to Britney's FOURTH makes any sense? :skull:

Beyoncé was bigger than Britney in the 10s decade for sure though.

I was a Beyonce stan when Columbia got caught for payola.

Columbia (Bey's label) and Jive (Brit's label) are BOTH subsidiaries of Sony BMG. So if Sony BMG was practicing payola with Bey's label Columbia, there's a possibility they were doing the same with Brit's label (Jive). But neither are named in the article or Spitzer's investigation. The ones that's specifically named is Epic Records.

Survivor was def. not bigger than Britney, Forbes literally named Britney the biggest star on earth that year, I'm not even sure DC was on the list :fan:

And billboard named DC ARTIST OF THE YEAR BASED ON Sales and charting

Well this is not exactly evidence. The only mention in the article of Beyoncé's name is that she is an artist under Sony.

In most articles on the topic, Beyoncé is never mentioned as an example of the payola discussed. And while one can wonder if she ever received it, it doesn't mean she did just because the parent label did that for some. In the leaked e-mails, Beyoncé was also not cited.

And it should be noted that Sony was not the only label accused of payola at this time. Warner also had this scandal. Universal had it too. If we are assuming Beyoncé had payola without direct evidence because she was on Sony, then we can say that basically every mainstream artist had payola too. Britney is even mentioned in some articles (here and here) the way Beyoncé is listed as an artist under Sony in the article you shared.

Not Eternium going on about Payola when Britney has been using payola for ages. That’s why she got high debuts and fell off the week after

She did but Britney and DIL are eras close together. No one should be comparing DIL to BOMT or Oops; makes no sense.

Anyways, Britney fell off hard with Oops and then fell off harder with Britney. She had decline after decline. Beyoncé stayed just as successful with each album pretty much.

and solo Beyoncé & Britney are not around the same and no sympathy documents will change that.

Why are you comparing a debut album vs a fourth album?

Most artists are veterans by the fourth/fifth album.

Dangerously in Love.

Even with DC she was tugging on her wig, Billboard named DC artists of the year back to back in 2000 and 2001 during Britney's peak.

Same

It doesn’t make sense to me to compare them like that. Bey debuted years after, basically at the end of Britney’s peak and the start of her downfall.

Well it’s stupid to compare them at all since they debuted at different times. The question asked was when she became bigger and the answer is her debut. Britney had already peaked and was going down each era.

Well I'd say it was with ST.

Britney's door-busting success kind of instantly put her at the top, if not always for the right reasons or based on stats alone, she still kind of became an icon of pop music, and one so strong that it is hard to really outdo even if you have lots of (or more when comparating album-to-album) successes.

Though Beyoncé was continually serving consistency, artistry, popularity, and acclaim for a while before, the game-changing ST album really put her into a level of pop achievement and legend-hood that separated her from the rest. Being consistent means that people don't often rate you where they should, as your talents and achievements are kind of expected. And while she was by no means overlooked prior, with the Super Bowl and then ST she made it so that you cannot escape her place in pop, or her talents, or her career. It sort of combined everything that Beyoncé was good at in a clear and easy package and that put her into the next level, above the kind of popular/hyper-iconic artists like Britney.

I agree in that it's hard to accurately compare any albums, even something like two debuts, as unless the two artists are very much alike and the albums released in the same year, there will be factors that can make comparison faulty such as era they were released in, style of music, intent of album, etc.

How did she became bigger if Britney had already sold about 50M albums prior to Dangerously In Love? :rip:

Beyoncé was not bigger in 2003 when she was just debuting, she surpassed her in the 10s which is the answer to the question.

ST. DIL may have been bigger than ITZ but that was Britney's 4th era while it was Bey's debut so they're not comparable but once IASF happened she showed signs that she was gonna pass Britney, ST just solidified that.
