Certainly more on the ball than the W.H.O. but let's not unpack that :coffee2: Thanks :coffee2:

Also feel obligated to post this again as numbers are surging

Have a 3 month check up tomorrow. Gonna ask my doctor if somehow I can get the vaccine :deadbanana2:  I can’t find any information about it in Vegas online and with the gay community so small it’s only a matter of time till I know someone who will have it.

Bloop nvm for me I guess. I think I read the other vaccine can’t be used for people with HIV so hopefully no customers/friends have it on their hands till I can somehow get one :rip:

So will the gays be blamed for this yes or no :biblio:

Its not an std so not the same.

Once the straights start getting it they will take it more seriously..

I just dont know where to get the vaccine?!

Yes but we will get the blame for spreading it. Look all the mass anti-East Asian bigotry and hate crimes due to COVID-19.

I'm afraid there's no going back now. The global jet setting gay set and the few degrees of separation between them and the majority of the MSM community thanks to hook up culture ensure that it's not going to go away. This is just going to be another thing that we need to be careful of if you're not vaccinated (and even if you are, considering it's only 85% effective right?), the same we still need to be careful about non-HIV STDs if you're on PrEP.

I wonder if the long-term effect of this will be that "dark rooms" disappear as they are the ideal place for this to spread since you can't see the sores.

Will it be used as ammunition against gays by homophobic conservatives? Yes.

Is it spreading because of the sexual habits of a portion of the gay community? Yes. I think a lot of gay men really do not understand how massively different the sexual habits of a lot of gay men are from straight people. Like it's not uncommon for a reasonably attractive gay man in his 30s to have 100+ sexual partners by that point. The only straight people with that many partners are sex workers.

Wouldn't let me edit my post so Part 2:

That said this is a disease, no one asked for this, no one wants this, it's no one's "fault" in that sense, no one should be blamed. But objectively the sexual habits of a portion of gay men are causing this to spread, just like it caused HIV to spread. Men are horny and easy and unfortunately close bodily fluid contact is the best way to spread nasty viruses and bacteria.

If you can fly to British Columbia, Vancouver's gay men's health clinic is offering anonymous appointments (so they don't drive away the closeted bi guys who also need to get it who are all over the apps here), no health card needed, nothing

It doesn't seem that it's spreading among straights though. It seems to require close physical contact with the sores, which you won't really get unless you're having sex. The statistics are still overwhelmingly MSM even in places like London where it's been spreading for two months solid. It would be very interesting to see if the female cases are mostly partners of down low bisexual guys hooking up via Grindr on the low, but it's impossible to know that.

oh nice... I really like how London is managing the appointments, seems not to be messy as NY

But where do you get it. They arent offering. You have to have been exposed or have an std in the past 3 months

Mortimer Market Centre...I live in London... I think all the sexual clinics in central London who predominantly have gay patients are sending text messages for us to get it.

But what if someone has it on they hands and you shake hands with them or they touch you?

It seems it has stayed man because gay men generally  stay at gay events. If this had started at edc or something it would be a whole other issue.

Not entirely correct. The chain of infections is spreading beyond the initial cluster of gay men in large cities which would indicate another mode of transmission than casual contact/sex. Monkeypox (and all orthopoxviruses) is aerosolized and can be transmitted by breathing in airborne viruses.

Oh. Then we’re ******! Two pandemics at a time please.

I live in a conservative country where gays are demonized enough. Imagine with monkeypox how things will escalate.

2020 was a nightmare to me enough; I am really worried how the  monkeypox situation will turn out.

Just got my first shot. Kaiser didn't guarantee me a second shot due to the shortage but said they would contact me to set one up.

San Francisco isn't too bad right now, BUT it is Dore Alley at the end of this month, and Folsom Street Fair is coming up. I'm expecting a HUGE spike at the end of this month, considering s*x parties have not been cancelled. My partner and I cancelled our plans for Dore, and luckily he gets his first shot this Sunday... if all goes well and we are on time with our second dose, we SHOULD be fully protected by Folsom.
