I’m absolutely cackling. Can you please explain the homophobia for the self-loathing f-words in the class?

She used gay as the ultimate comeback diss. I guess it’s just so normalized a lot of people can’t recognize it as homophobia anymore. This could be a way to talk about other things if we didn’t try and minimize it in the first place. The negative stereotyping of gay people is where all these homophobic laws come from. People had to be homophobic before the laws were made or they would have never been made. Right ??? :chick1:

History is nonsense?

In talking about a Taylor Swift lyric from 2006, yes it is :deadbanana4:

She was so real for this :clap3: shame on her for changing the lyrics later.

Anyone hating this is homophobic, argue w the wall.

I know some gays have death wishes and humiliation kinks but that doesn’t mean you can be a Christian Walker and say that homophobia is okay for the rest of us.

How old are you, serious question.

Here you are again trying to misrepresent what I said. I was bringing up real examples of homophobia obviously unrelated to Ms. Swift. Your need to tie everything I say back to Ms. Swift is unsettling. I am beginning to suspect that it is being done deliberately.

I brought that stuff up to explain why you all need to stop dismissing homophobia and you’re still trying to dismiss homophobia by linking it to petty stan wars. How regressive. This is like the tenth time you’ve said that and made me repeat myself. You’re doing it on purpose. You enjoy this.

Swifties trying to defend this are so embarrassing :skull: like yea it's not that deep, it's an old ass lyrics that was changed, nobody's perfect, we've all moved on, that's fine

but idk why y'all have to fight tooth and nail to convince everyone it wasn't homophobic :deadbanana2: love yourselves please

The fact that after all this time y'all still think Taylor is going to get cancelled, and over something that has already been brought up ad nauseam no less :rip:

She survived Kimye gate and is bigger than ever, she isn't going anywhere. I know that pains you to hear :toofunny2:

What would that have to do with anything? :mazen:

You accused me of strawmen and now you’re asking my age? :mazen:

You are doing this on purpose. Stop quoting and double quoting me. :mazen:

See, this is why I asked how old you were, because apart from other things your reading comprehension is questionable at best. People aren't dismissing homophobia, they're dismissing the fake outrage over this 15 year old lyric that has already been addressed and changed years ago. It's beyond done.

Because aside from what I said above I want to know if you were aware of the world in the early 2000s.

Why are the Swifties defending homophobic behavior? Y'all are out here looking like the Barbz. :deadbanana2:

The only one faking outrage here is you thinking I’m talking about that lyric at all. The rest of what you said is a personal attack.

edit: no this thread isn’t about Taylor Swift it’s about a homophobic song she made when she was 12 your attempts to shut down any and all discussion of homophobia are regressive

I really need people to focus their energy on actual homophobic things like Florida’s “don’t say gay” legislation and not this relatively anodyne lyric. She doesn’t even give an explicit value judgment to homosexuality in the song. Come on.

pls, i find the line very funny and humorous but let's not be in denial here or deflect :dies:

the lyric is homophobic, like no other way to cut it, it's a homophobic joke. as a retort to a disparaging thing her man might tell other people about her, she equated telling people her ex-bf was gay as being just as bad. therefore, her equating people publicly viewing her man as gay as being emasculating and humiliating. it was a different time, she was young, and this was a prevailing view among young people then which makes me consider it at like, the bottom of the barrel as far as homophobic statements go, but it's still HOMOPHOBIC, like no other way to put it. comprende now sis ?

Can't wait for the live version to go viral where she explicitly sings it at age 18 or whatever.

She needs to stand by it and bring back the homophobic lyric for TV :clap3: We need a Doja Cat or Azealia Banks feature

Do... do you know what thread you're in anymore? Can you read the title? The OP? Like... why are you in here? :rip:

It's not a personal attack :rip:

It's a genuine question because I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt that you didn't live through this era (early 2000s) when you were old enough to consciously be aware of what society was like regarding casual homophobia. Otherwise, your outrage stemming from a throwaway lyric is beyond me, like, make a new thread to talk about actual problems facing the world today regarding true homophobia, like @supaspaz said. Talk about "Don't Say Gay", talk about the countless anti-trans bills passing regarding hormone therapy in trans youth, talk about the rise in anti-gay violence, ANYTHING but one line from a 15 year old song that only exists in the bargain bins of Goodwill :deadbanana4:

The thread is about homophobia and I keep trying to talk about homophobia not even mentioning Taylor and you keep bringing it back to Taylor. Am I in a really bad Black Mirror episode? :what:

This. The lyric is homophobic, but no one would have batted an eye to it in 2006, literally everyone talked like that, unfortunately. And Taylor changed it less than a year later anyways, you can only find this version of random old CDs at thrift stores. This only exists as a time capsule to what casual homophobia was like back then, it doesn't matter at all today, which is why the pearl clutching in this thread is beyond performative :rip:

Thinking I can’t read thread titles isn’t trolling? Love how you didn’t even bold the homophobic part.

People pretending to be offended by this line she wrote at 15 :dies: It's actually funny and iconic, way less cringey/offensive than "shade never made anybody less gay"

TBH... YNTCD was way worse than a 15 year old writing shady lyrics that were normal at the time.

Because the thread is about a Taylor Swift song being homophobic omfg. This is literally what you just said:

Taylor is being brought up because the thread is about her ******* song :deadbanana4:

You're literally admitting to purposefully going off topic by continuously saying you don't want to talk about Taylor. Awesome, then go make another thread jfc :rip:
