Really excited to get Monday numbers.. huge Boxing Day domestically (currently tracking for #4 biggest Monday of all time!) and OS holidays in full gear (after Xmas cinema closures in a few markets). Should be huge! ($100M global day? I have no idea right now)

Whole weekend (their box office weekend is 5 days). 1.823M admissions, down from 1.847M :WAP:

Next weekend might get close to 2M admissions, bigger than debut weekend.

Streets are saying $160-200M OS 3rd weekend. :psyduck:

This will have great legs because there’s literally no notable movies coming out in January other than M3gan, which doesn’t hurt the imax numbers or premium screens.

Posted

I knew this would have legs because Avatar was not the kind of movie to inspire devotion and convert casual fans into obsessive fanboys which is exactly what fuels the massive but often frontloaded openings for most Marvel movies, but that doesn't really matter when everyone considers it to be the best visual experience a movie can offer nowadays so people will eventually catch it even if they don't rush on release day

I'm very excited to see the movie but I'm not wasting 4 hours of my holidays to go to the cinema so I'll watch it with friends in January when not much is going on anyway

and I know a lot of other people feel the same so this will definitely have legs

$1B by tomorrow. With a week of holidays before January. So much gas left in the tank, $2B is still possible.

This film is easily snatching 2 billion! And don't be surprised if cinemas will still be booking Avatar 6 months from now like they did with Top Gun ksksksksk this is a GP movie

Cameronizers won :clap3:

I hope the critics are feeling triggered right now, they deserve this success by trying to make avatar 2 a bomb

Remember everyone saying this is a forgotten fad and now trying to force this underperformance narrative :lmao:

This was a beautiful film. I saw it with my bf on Christmas Eve and I haven’t seen the first since it came out and tbh wasn’t a big fan of it at the time, but this exceeded my expectations by a lot. I like that they were happy to truly go there with the humans being the villains and what happened in the film is 100% something that would happen in real life if we could do that.

I went in not expecting much and kind of upset that I had to sit through it, but I came out truly excited for where the franchise and world of Pandora is going to go. The VFX were breath taking.

Coming for 2.5 billion

Not as big of an increase on Boxing Day as expected incoming. About 5%, up to $31.5-32M. Totally fine, still huge. Xmas Sunday jump was abnormally large so Boxing Day jump was gonna be smaller. Still a $95-96M 4 day.

This move is doing better than expected, but it def lucked out being the only Xmas movie out now. No competition mixed with curiosity/hype from the 1st movie.
