Donquizote Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 If I remember correctly, No Way Home grossed 80M and Dr Strange 2 grossed 66M during second weekend.
Maddox Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 Just watched it and i didn't even feel the 3 hour run I'm definitely going to see it again. Idk who this year's contenders are but Sam Worthington deserves the Oscar, he was really good!!!
bad guy Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 So good And of course Marvel fans are seething. They can't stand seeing an actual GOOD movie with identity and soul smashing at the box office.

What does it have to offer, apart from bad script and CGI?

babyforlife Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 Overall thoughts the first movie was still better for me. The kid (spider) was annoying as hell. Kiri should be the main character in Avatar 3. She’s the most interesting character by far. The story isn’t special, I’ve expected something more “deeper” and “scarier” while they were exploring the sea. I still prefer this over any marvel movies. I’ve watched in standard 2D, cuz the 3D were all sold out at my cinema. I would definitely watch it again for the 3D experience this week.
BNF91 Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 (edited) US got battered with a huge snowstorm. Initially, numbers coming out looked disastrous like $13.5-14M Tuesday. That would have been terrible. However it looks like estimates are coming in better. Tues looking like a slight jump up a bit from Monday, with $17-17.5M. Better increase than Rogue One's comparable day. Overseas numbers should be gigantic once again, maybe $35-40M Tuesday. Edited December 21, 2022 by BNF91

Not if they gave numbers specifically for Czech Republic. Let me search through the Box office forums for the number. Edit: So I haven't been able to find numbers yet (they will pop up eventually) but Avatar 2 is only behind Endgame for all-time openings. 4th biggest in admissions (tickets are so pricey!) For some comparison, I do have box office/admissions from Romania, where it broke the all-time record. $1.36M debut, over 200k tickets sold. Edited December 21, 2022 by BNF91

Yeah I'm from Romania and it's crazy I could only get tickets for 2nd weekend of January Every other date had only front rows seats available

Gaia Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 yasss this is showing very good legs into the first week.
Sweetestsecret Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 https://www.boxofficepro.com/christmas-weekend-box-office-forecast-how-might-avatar-the-way-of-water-hold-up-as-puss-in-boots-the-last-wish-babylon-and-i-wanna-dance-with-somebody-debut/ $61,300,000 (-54%). Oops..
BNF91 Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 (edited) Oh that Tuesday number is sweet. A nice $2.1M jump from Monday compared to Rogue One's slight decrease Mon-Tues. Also nearly $1M bigger than Rogue One's Tuesday. Next weekend could be $65-70M+ domestic, heading into the final week of December where it will have big increases all week. Can be at $400-425M domestic by Jan 3 (as Monday, Jan 2 will still see big holiday numbers before starting the drop off). $500-550M is the target. But the international Tuesday was even sweeter.. $40.5M Bigger than both No Way Home and The Force Awakens 1st Tuesdays. $1B overseas is locked. $1.35-1.5B OS is the target $556M worldwide after 5 days. $605-615M after today. $1.85-2.05B globally is the target. Oops.. That's given Rouge One's trajectory. It's already performing more stable going into the week.
Zerocoke Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 Should reach 1B between Wednesday and Thursday next week if it keeps performing at this rate. Domestic remains a mystery, and is still performing on par with Rogue One. Anything below $80M will be problematic and more in line with regular blockbusters. Avatar had a +$70M second weekend! Barely dropping from the previous one! TWOW should indeed have a bigger drop as a sequel will always be more frontloaded, but a drop of more than 40% will not lead to the juggernaut many desire.
Donquizote Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 This will open bigger if it weren't for COVID resurgence in China. I'm guessing next week number will be bigger for China and yes, this is looking like it will gross >1.5B WW which is a success
Finny Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 This was amazing, omg. I need to serve an Avatar (2009) rewatch, I barely remember it at all.

Really should consider how the Saturday being Xmas Eve will affect the numbers this year. Lots of that weekend business gets pushed to Boxing Day Monday, which will be the biggest day for all films not only this weekend, but for this holiday season. Something like 24/17/27 for the weekend, then a $32M+ Monday.
