The “popular” child tax credit lasted a year, and was killed by Democrats who worried about regular people getting too much of a good thing.

The right has got better at culture war stuff, and we are not winning at the moment Well, the Dems and their leadership have already abandoned us as a lost cause to focus on "kitchen table issues" (per Hakeem Jeffries words), but I mean... they're not even doing a good job at that, nor have they ever. The agenda is entirely dictated by what Manchin (the actual president) will permit, and everyone knows there's no path towards a better majority in either the House or the Senate. So we're basically in a holding pattern until the Republicans take possibly overwhelming majorities, the progressives will be blamed, and the Democrats will pivot more to the right in response.

So Biden probably is pissed about the fact his antiquated view of politics isn’t translating to high approval.
