And I know this thread loves to hate on LOONA for some reason but PTT is way better & more memorable than SHUT DOWN. Let's not lie :giraffe:

No one is loving to hate on LOONA right now. It's a personal opinion. You guys act like its either you have to say "I LOVE THIS SONG" or you hate the group even when you type out a comment explaining the reasoning in a simple way. :ducky:

KPOP stans are so used to maximalism in the genre that the minute someone releases a more laid-back song it's seen as "boring" & "weak"  :toofunny2:

Like, let's just be glad they didn't debut with some experimental mess like every other GG is doing.

The way Soobin looked at that hot daddy :-*

Anyway, with these new 6 member groups i feel like it'll be so much harder for Everglow to compete. We all know it's not because of Yuehua (Yena smashing with her solo) but maybe people just not interested in them :gaycat6:

Not necessarily, songs like Love Dive or Tomboy weren’t experimental messed  or “genre maximalism”, yet they were still well received and liked. Just because a song is laid back doesn’t mean it has to loved or even liked. If it’s not memorable it’s just not memorable sorry :michael:

Yujin, Yunjin, Kazuha, Xiaoting....

I like some of them but none of these are it girls. The standards for it girls now being fancams :biblio:

I love how you can never just say you don't like a song in this thread. There always has to be thinkpieces about the state of K-pop or it's because you have something against a group. :priceless: This is coming from someone who has played Fearless over 100 times by the way before you guys think I hate them. :priceless:

I haven't been keeping up with Queendom but I watched the vocal performances and I was surprised how...not great Hyorin sounds nowadays. It's better than a few years ago and I kind of think she just wasn't trying cause I've heard her sing way better than that recently but I kind of miss the good old days of her voice. Like this performance, which I was reminded of cause somebody posted the Psy and Hwasa remake in here the other day.

A legend, a queen, etc. I just want her to thrive so I guess it's good she's getting more attention but I miss her old voice

She's still recovering from Covid side effects and she focused too much on emoting in the vocal unit performance

She sounded better in the first 2 rounds

But share your ranking with us anyways :chick1:

She said her voice is still feeling the effects of COVID + MNET is nerfing her vocals.

Psy is usually a skip, but that that is a good fun summer song. His song with Hwasa is also really good.

I think that to be an IT girl, you need to have to be able to produce some sort of intrigue about you. Something that makes the audience want to know more about you. It's not just about dancing or singing well, it's also about innate personality and the way you carry yourself. And I'd argue that to produce intrigue you need to have some sort of duality about it endearing and/or surprising when you do random things, because that's what creates buzz online. So in that sense, sad to say but chaewon and yunjin do not have that IT factor. They're just enthusiastic pretty girls that sing and dance well, there's really not much else to anticipate. You've seen it once, you've seen it all. :michael:

The only ones with the IT factor in LSFM are Sakura, Kazuha and Garam, but in different ways and to varying extents.

Sakura is pretty, but she's also really dorky and awkward but she does her best to put on a show which makes her endearing, and her constant improvement keeps fans coming back.

Kazuha is a (legit) ballet dancer and she carries herself with that grace, but at the same time she has a low voice, does the rapping and is able to let go when she has to on stage. Even more bonus points for the backstory about literally being scouted in the netherlands 6 months ago. An ace and yet an underdog. She's literally the perfect storm of interest generation. It's no wonder her fancam views are so high right off the bat. Everyone wants to know how she's doing, it helps that she's actually doing great on stage so people keep coming back for more.

Garam fits the mysterious ice queen archetype to a tee. She knows how to work her gaze well. I think what matters most for her now is whether she'll be able to show enough of her personality in variety programs to captivate people (ie Jennie screaming and crying in a haunted house). Given how little she's been talking so far, it feels like HYBE has given her a gag order because of the scandal, and that's going to impact her IT girl potential in he short term. Which is a problem for LSFM as a whole because she's the only one with actual potential to be an IT girl in Korea (since Sakura and Kazuha aren't Korean). And it's pretty clear HYBE were trying to push her since she's the one starting and ending Fearless.

So with no Wonyoung in the group as of now, it seems that their success/recognition amongst the GP (at least) in the short term is hinging purely on how well their songs click. Things would have been different if they had Minju to fall back on, but since they've got Kazuha instead, I do suspect that HYBE will be pushing them more in Japan. I've seen some of yall talking about how Rei is gonna take over Japan, and she's a cute girl.... But when you put cute next to gorgeous, gorgeous is going to devour cute. With Sakura's pre-existing power over Japan + Kazuha bringing in more fans, I really do think it will be easier for LSFM to take over Japan as opposed to Korea. Japan's girl group situation has been in the pits for a long time now (post AKB falling off), and I think with the proper push, LSFM have what it takes to really make it big there.
