Director Jacques Audiard will helm Emilia Perez, a comedy that will star Argentinian actress Karla Sofia Gascón , with talks underway with Selena Gomezand Zoe Saldana.

Will provide more details when I get them, but this is creating buzz in the Cannes market. It’s a musical comedy about an El Chapo-type fugitive who can’t get away from the law so has a sex change. Ten years later she misses her children immensely and returns as their aunt. LPI is financing, and Wild Bunch will be selling international along with CAA Media Finance, which is also selling North American territories. Sofia is an Argentinian trans actress who has emerged as one to watch. Tell you more when I know it.

The way Selena has quietly worked with several of the most respected and acclaimed directors alive is kinda insane :jonnycat:

Honestly, it's impressive and underrated that she manages to juggle being an international pop star/tabloid fixture with movie choices so inspired and left-field. Audiard has been churning out acclaimed film after acclaimed film, and this is basically guaranteed to premiere at Cannes. I feel stans are worried just because they envision some screwball comedy with that premise, but I'm positive it's gonna have a completely different style and tone than what they expect - his track record is pretty much pristine, I'd be shocked if this turned out to be offensive in any way or a turd :rip:

Either way, they're not going to be the target audience of this movie so they'll probably not even be interested enough to give it a watch, lol. The fact that it's already generating buzz is a good sign :clap3:

I'm so shocked that she's working with Audiard. He's a very respected director that won the Palme d'Or at Cannes in 2015 with his film Dheepan.

Selena keeps booking roles with great talent. I mean, to be able to say that you've starred in movies directed by auteurs like Harmony Korine, Jim Jarmusch, Woody Allen and Jacques Audiard. It's not for everybody!

Yes! I couldn't agree more! I'm so happy that she makes the right decisions and keeps pushing the limits of what she can do with her talent. She's so smart.

If her career were in the hands of her fans, she'd be starring in a terrible reboot of Wizards of Waverly Place.

Do we really think that user has inside information on the album title / release strategy, etc? Truly just curious, I didn't know if they have a track record of knowing these things beforehand and would love to believe them lol.

Seems like they got the info from someone else who had some sort of receipts/ not first hand info but still believable to them. Let’s be patient and see.

I mean, it all makes so much sense that if nothing happens like it is supposed to it would be shocking: July 22 is on a Friday and that’s when albums are released. She’s gonna be 30. It is like perfect.

And I think the title, if true, might be something like Retrospective, Reintroduction…

a musical? I'm scared

Zack Efron has been doing musicals for so long now and he can't sing live so Selena will be more than ok

I’m so nervous about her opening monologue. I know she’ll be able to  joke about  herself but I wonder what they’ll joke about. Her love life, idk what to expect. It’s a few minutes long. Kim’s is the last one I saw and that was good. It would have been so perfect if Steve and Martin didn’t have a show that night. They are so funny together.

In an interview she did, she said she talked to Martin Short about it so maybe he gave him some tips!

I kinda think she will…

she will probably joke about Disney times, Ex relationships, AMAs performance, maybe Taylor squad, and OMITB.

i dont think she will joke about health issues. But ive only seen like 2 open monologues my whole life so i may be very wrong about it all :bam:

SNL monologues tend to just take one subject and work around that, they don’t go jumping from one to another and touch a dozen, so I dont know which one would be genuinely funny that she can joke about it for around 4 minutes
