Idk, it seems like everyone says they want experimentation but then no one goes to bat for Joanne. Chromatica was definitely a different approach compared to past albums. I’m not sure Gaga doing something radically different will be well received following LFS.

I do not think she needs to experiment, necessarily. Trying something new or even going "balls to the wall" does not necessarily mean going full Arca, Bjork, or Grimes lol. As someone mentioned, BTW is a good example of this. It was not experimental or crazy, but it was different and something only she could do. Need more of that, imo. But I honestly do not care which genre she goes down as long as she goes full on with it.

Since we're talking about the Fadscars, I can't help but feel like we're expecting way too much of JFAD. I know the first one received 11 Oscar nominations, but that was an exception rather than a rule. Comic book movies aren't exactly Academy Award darlings, and they're clearly taking a different approach this time around.

Lemme try to keep my expectations in check.

:suburban:

Keeping expectations in check is a good idea. :jonny: But to be fair, it has a lot of good things going for it. As long as it is not horrible, I think Gaga will be in a good place Oscar wise.

Tea. That apparently helped both Greedy and Loving on Me build momentum and we could use that :suburban:

Is Poker God coming for a second consecutive week of 1 million+ daily streams?

It's certainly possible, it's still increasing week over week

Spoiler

Even though said increase is by less than 1,000 streams

I highly doubt she would, but that method has indeed led to some pretty massive hits these past few years:

First Class

Unholy

I'm Good (Blue)

Greedy

Lovin On Me

However, I don't know if any majorly established artists with large, loyal fanbases like Gaga have attempted it or what their payoff was. With the above songs, the artists in question aren't exactly A-List and/or don't have the type of rabid fanbase Gaga has and instead rely on more GP listeners.

I wonder if teasing a song on TikTok like this would be risky for someone like Gaga because it could lead to fanbase fatigue from liddos overplaying the snippet (and thus potentially not streaming the full song upon release as much as we would if it were released normally) and possibly fail to generate the sort of viral traction that would make the risk worth it, which could lead to something similar to Stupid Love's situation.

Plus, if they're not careful and tease the best part of the song and it does in fact go viral, it could lead to a First Class type of situation where it smashes out the gate but fades pretty quickly since everyone had already overlistened to the best part and it ends up forgotten.

Just some thoughts regarding this approach. :lee:

Anyway what do we expect for the new single announcement? A simple post, a billboard like it was for Stupid Love, all the post archived on IG or a collage ala Perfect Illusion? :ducky:

I think there is a high chance we are getting a JFAD trailer finally in Super Bowl. If she smart Gaga would release right after the Super Bowl to get a the hype going.

The Oscar’s for some reason always use “Batman as the exception” for Oscar’s nominations including joker films. Let’s not forget heath ledger and the dark knight were heavy winners also. I think Gaga would try to pull a heath ledger and outperform Joaquin Phoenix in his own movie. I think compaign will focus on Gaga trying to get those noms as much as possible. Assuming the entire film is based on Harley perspective. Basically what I am trying to say is that when it comes to Batman universe the Oscar’s committee sees those films as more high bro compared to other super hero movies.

Just some thoughts regarding this approach. :lee:

I think there's pros and cons to it. On one hand, she does need GP support in order for a song to be a good sized hit. If the song caught on, the Liddos not streaming it as much would be compensated by the GP streaming it more. I don't think Liddos have the fanbase power to make a song smash by themselves the way a fanbase like the Swifties do. So gaining some TikTok traction would definitely help the song, especially in its debut week. And I think the song gaining traction on TikTok would help its chances on radio too.

But I didn't about the longevity point you made. Out of curiousity, I decided to look up the streams of the five songs you listed (keeping in mind that Kworb is showing a Sunday update, so they're going to be lower than usual).

First Class: 360k

Unholy: 818k

I'm Good (Blue): 1.47 million

Greedy: 4.5 million

Lovin On Me: 4.3 million

The latter two are currently smashing so they don't really count, but the other three show that the longevity is a big question mark. Unholy was much bigger than I'm Good (Blue) in 2022, but the latter is doing much better on Spotify now. And First Class is tanking (fun fact, I have yet to hear it :rip:) compared to how much it smashed less than two years ago.

Overall, I think it's a high risk/high reward strategy. On one hand, it can make a song much bigger than it otherwise would've been, and Gaga will have Joker publicity in the second half of the year to keep the song afloat (which is something Stupid Love/Chromatica overall didn't have). But like you said, it could fail to catch on or it could end up being frontloaded. It could also end up going viral after its release.
