Idk how many of you were on the forums from 2011-2014 but the Little Monsters were (:eli:) an insanely toxic fanbase. Gaga's struggles with mental health come in no small part from the dynamic she had with her fanbase. Keeping the fans at an arm's length was the right decision for her own wellbeing. I'd love to see her have a pop music revival and dominate streaming and radios with her edgy pop persona, but I don't think she wants to be in that position again.

Hi :emofish: @Kylie Jenner @Hot Volcano

So you both have JFAD movie threads and since neither really update them, I was wondering if y’all were willing to give them up? I’d have to ask a mod to merge the threads and make me the OP if you agreed. :emofish: Thanks anyhow!

I do not think Gaga is chasing anything in particular, she is just doing what makes her happy. This kind of pessimism, imo, is why she has distanced herself from her fanbase, which in large part does not support anything she does unless it is exactly what they want. The reason Bey and Tay are able to continue feeding their fans is because their fans are incredibly supportive and loving towards them no matter what they do. If B or T were to put out a jazz song or a song with the Rollingstones, their fans would instantly support it without hesitation. It absolutely does suck to see other fans get fed, but we kind of have ourselves to blame. I can not in good faith expect Gaga to care about us when we have been so, so incredibly nasty to her.

We’re gonna have to agree to disagree on this I fear. I love her, have since ‘08, I love that she’s doing other things that interest her. The film work isn’t really my issue nor is jazz or any of that.

It’s the fact that she absolutely is trying to court an audience that once rejected her. She has been very calculated with her image and has gone from an artist to a brand in a lot of ways. The advertisements and sponsorships are getting out of control, the cash grabbing is getting tiresome, and the pandering to the more reserved general public that she’s very clearly trying to get respect from is really alienating.

The criticism from Little Monsters is not unwarranted. It has felt a lot lately like we’re not welcome anymore unless we’re giving her money. Otherwise, she wants that sweet GP approval.

Mind you, Hive and Swifties criticize their girls often. Especially lately. But the difference is they don’t stop supporting despite the things they disapprove of because they aren’t made to feel left behind.

I get some LMs want to protect Gaga and I think she deserves defending from the really far out there, ultra aggressive, baseless criticism. But she is very open to the criticism of the poor and confusing choices she’s made as of late. And long time fans deserve the freedom to say they don’t feel good about how much everything has changed with her lately.

You're right, strangers thinking they have ownership over the life, goals and dreams of an individual because they felt at some point there was an exchange that gave them agency over her are no longer welcome!

See, this is the problem.

So many corners of the fanbase feel like this grown woman is immune to criticism and that anyone who does it is a whiner or thinks they have agency over her.

None of us have agency over her. She is free to do whatever she pleases! No one can or should try and stop her.

That doesn’t mean we have to be supportive of it.

I’ve watched her movies in theaters multiple times. I bought the jazz albums. I’ve supported her in those endeavors. That isn’t the issue I or a lot of people have.

My issue is the fact that she has changed a lot in a way that is not welcoming to people who’re not willing or are not to slap down a bunch of money for her products or for her shows. She’s changed in a way that has taken her far away from that fearless, rebellious spirit everyone fell in love with to someone who is calculating every step of their career to be as digestible to the public that once shunned her as possible. It’s really disappointing to see a woman who preached for so long about owning your uniqueness and individuality turn around and start bating for Oscars and begging the people who once hated you to love you.

She’s been courting that middle American style vanilla audience since Joanne whether long time fans want to admit that or not. Those types of people are more valuable to her now than her actual fans are. And that’s her choice! I don’t advocate for anyone to be aggressive in their response to that, or call her nasty things, or flood her comments with their complaints or trying to dissuade her from that choice.

But it’s wrong to try and push people out of the fanbase simply because they’re saying things you don’t want to hear.

When you build your entire career off of establishing a relationship with your audience and preaching so many wonderful things, there is bound to be backlash when you decide to change tack and abandon all of that, no matter what the reasons for it are.

She’s just decided she’s fine with that. And again, that’s her choice! But that doesn’t mean everyone else automatically has to be fine with it either. More and more people are realizing stanning doesn’t mean you constantly have to eat your fave’s ass. There is room for criticism in being stan.

that would be a cool cover for self titled. Something like this but instead of awards, there are instruments scattered around her

This. As often as newer stans say artists don't owe us anything, we also  don't owe an artist our support if we don't like what they're creating.

(That said, I can't wait for Joker 2)

Bloody Mary jazz version in Vegas when :angelo:

In all seriousness, Bloody Mary's revival has been one of the most satisfying things to watch unfold in her career. It's been my favorite song of hers since I first heard it, and if they can cement it as a Halloween classic, then that'll always give the fanbase one guaranteed hit to track for an entire month for the rest of her career. I would love for her to make a high-budget music video for the song at some point, but I'm not delusional. So I'll just enjoy the fact that the song's being appreciated by the GP.

Ugh I KNOW, it really is one of her best songs ever! Being able to track her stats is so fun. :duca: Let me be a bit delusional and imagine that they wouldn't just randomly release those new vinyls without some more promo for the song. The fact that we also have BTW during pride and Just Dance in NYE, we are just missing a Xmas classic now.

Her version of Winter Wonderland is actually rising every year. 250k last year, Christmas Tree did 68k. We need an actual good Xmas pop song, though. No offense to the CT lovers.
