Irvine Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 this is the first song from the new album that i‘m disappointed with so far

KC hinted at Lighthouse in one of the last streams, but not sure? I’m not sure, but I can ask. At this point it would be weird if nothing came out next week. Lol. 1
kelli101 Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 I don’t know what’s going on with this album Like quality of WCCA to this… RFC- the melody is messy? The Lyrics, I liked when I saw the leak, but the way she sings it, along with the production is coming off juvenile. Won’t be surprised if it’s produced by Jason

She surprisingly doesn’t list out any red flags (so the song title doesn’t feel integrated into the song) and the chorus is so forgettable. I was expecting more of a list of red flags as well, but it seems like the title and song is actually a reference to Little Red Riding Hood. "Red Flag Collector" is a character and the song is an allegory. It's interesting and cute. I like how pointed the lyrics are, sonically it was a little jarring upon first listen. Probably my least favorite of the tracks so far. 1

Agreed I feel people think we are being negative just because… but it’s seriously NOT the sound I was expecting for such a personal record. I was expecting it to be a mature take, aka an Adele record. This stuff just sounds so immature. People keep bringing up that’s she’s 41 when defending her whole promo strategy or lack there of, we’ll ima need her to then match that sound and production with that then
kelli101 Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 Okay thank god… it looks like most of the album is produced by Jesse Shatkin. Although I’m so over their partnership, I’ll take that over a Jason produced track, cause my god what wth was Red flag collector

jpsketch Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 Admittedly, Red Flag Collector is the only song I haven’t heard from the album. I enjoyed it at the Belasco, though. I think the production is quite interesting, but I understand why some aren’t liking it. I’m curious why they’re holding back on Skip This Part, Down To You, or Lighthouse.

Maybe it’s a good thing that y’all’s expectations have shrunk. It makes it easier to be pleasantly surprised. 🤷🏽♂️ If you enjoyed WCCA or the Kelleoke EP there's no reason you shouldn't like this album. 2
Ab1818 Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 I LOVE I Hate Love and pop rock Kelly so I’ll probably really like this. Waiting until it’s released later tonight to listen to it though. I’ve seen some people dislike it and others love it lol.
Baby Boy Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 5th dud in a row omg I’ll be shocked if I like even one song on this album at this rate. 1 1

I’m expecting this album to flop because the pop music game has changed so drastically and Kelly isn’t the kind of person to commit to the social media games necessary to elevate an album (think of how Olivia and Taylor lean into the nature of TikTok for promoting their music). She has children and other professional things going on, so she doesn’t need to pander to a younger demographic to have a hit. That’s fine. I don’t care about charts. But, I just want a good record and I’d expect a more mature, reflective album that leans into her age and I’m not getting it with this album. While I like IHL, it still feels like a moderate album track to me and isn’t a standout like some of her Christmas divorce songs are. So yeah, I am disappointed with the album and we’ve roughly heard half of it. The magic snippet sounds promising so I’m hoping it delivers. But I’m pretty sad that I won’t be able to enjoy this album like I was hoping I was, especially since it’s been so long since MOL. I’m glad others in this base are able to enjoy it though. 1

Pop-rock elements are there but it has a country-western feel to it. It leans into the “cowboy” lyric a lot in its style. Just a fair warning.
stoopidjenna Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 The country-western element is really only in the intro... The first verse, which is the most jarring to me, sounds like something from My December, and the rest of the track sounds like standard circa 2010s pop-rock.
KevinKDC Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 That was a horrible listening experience. Hoe fitting it was while taking a ****. Mine and IHL are the only songs that are good. Still they both have very average reply value for me. I have yet to hear a song that’s really IT for me. She’s going really soft on Brandon here. Where is the angst? The passion? That fire? She needs to let go of our comfort zone and the “yes people” surrounding her. The fact that her assistant is now her manager with zero experience…. Child. This era was destined to be a disaster. 2
KCDC Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 Ugh, I hate that I'm so disappointed with it so far, and the fact that she postponed the album b/c she said she wasn't ready yet lead me to believe that the songs were going to be a lot more personal. I think the angle she's going for with this album (the arc of a relationship) is just a way to cover up the fact that the song choices are so all over the place. Although, maybe she's holding off on the standouts until the album is released. I really hope that's the case lol 1

I really hope that's the case lol I’ve never felt this way about any of her albums, except MD, went it came out….. sometimes you need the experience of good producers on you side Kell- which seems to be the common thread to these “personal” projects. Both of these are limited to 2 producers. The Lyrics are decent, but could have instantly been elevated by better production and melodies Mol I was instantly truck by the quality sonically. Same with Pxp. Edited June 8, 2023 by kelli101 1
BravoTangoWhiskey Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 On a side note (as y’all know I rather enjoyed RFC) the guetta remix of FKOH keeps gaining… today’s update: mine: 7,815,192 (+86,292) mine remix: 735,594 (+17,419) - slowing down now mine total: 8,550,786 (+103,711) me: 3,540,989 (+31,868) - been somewhat stale for a while now fkoh album: 3,145,952 (+125,437) fkoh guetta: 1,497,022 (+169,587) fkoh total: 4,642,974 (+295,024) ihl: 680,045 (+92,978) Total era so far: 17,414,794 (+523,481) ————- I think after how MoL’s numbers are pretty bad, Atlantic wanted album tracks to have higher streams. Also, although I don’t like it, WLW was the hit on the album that they should’ve pushed (even in between the eras - Atlantic dropped the ball there looking at recurrent streams). I hope this is what Atlantic are doing and have some big hitting singles coming out. Fkoh’s numbers aren’t amazing but they’re not awful, and it wouldn’t surprise me if a week after album release it was the most streamed song again (particularly if the guetta version keeps going as it is). 1 1
Othep Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 RFC is interesting production, makes the album more complex… its good adds, it’s if some old listener didn’t like it, hope new listener growth… byeiii
Sni2 Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 (edited) Just listened to Red Flag Collector. I'd say this is the only song I actually enjoyed so far. And it's what I've been expecting from the album in general. She drags who needs to be dragged. The sound is really original. No one is doing something similar in terms of production and arrangement. At least not that I've heard so far. It's a creative song and there's no fear in the lyrics, which I've been sensing in all the songs released so far. I'll give an honest spin to this song as soon as it officially comes out tomorrow. It definitely hit the spot for me. And I'm sure it will become a favorite of her discography for me in the near future. But I understand it's not for everyone, especially for those who aren't fans of western. That’s actually an interesting strategy; releasing the “filled”/ least commercial tracks first to get more streams in advance, which might result in a better debut… At the same time; releasing the weakest tracks first might make people disinterested in the album. This can easily backfire. 1
