I just skimmed through the IHL thread and I've gotta say I'm amazed by how small-minded some people are when it comes to people releasing new music.  If you want someone to release more of the same of what they've already done, that's your thing, but it's pretty boring to be expecting 41 year old KC to be repeating songs she released 20 years ago.  Every single thing she's released so far this era (minus me, I'd say) has ventured into new territory for her sonically AND has been self or co-self penned.  This is KC the ARTIST.  I know not everyone vibes with every song but I'm kinda grossed out by people hoping for rehashes of what we have already gotten in the past.

Also, by the sounds of it, the real hard-hitters on this album are Rock Hudson, Lighthouse, and Down To You, which we HAVEN'T EVEN HEARD YET.

To quote Alexa from FJ2K - can we all just unclench a bit?

Mmm… interesting take. I’d say Mine is a stand out sonically, as it’s something she’s never done before.

Everything else is a rehash of she of her older stuff in her career :michael: like every other song reminds me of something she would have done on certain albums. You should be more grossed out by the fact that it sounds too similar to her previous material.

Not saying it’s a bad thing. I love I hate love and mine. FKOH is some generic stronger/pxp reject. I’ve come to like it though …. Me is Mol track with weaker production. Again I like it though…

I hope there’s a deluxe. There’s a song called roses that deserves to get released.

I believe there's also a song called don't blame me

I agree. Lyrically, Mine and Me just feel like diluted, generic breakup songs. “I don’t need somebody to hold me; I don’t need somebody to love me,” is such a generic breakup theme and it falls flat compared to countless breakup songs she’s had throughout her career (Let Me Down, You Love Me, Behind These Hazel Eyes, Never Again, etc.).

I was expecting more emotional vulnerability from this album and she hasn’t really delivered on that end. I understand it’s a trade off between being vulnerable and respecting the need of privacy for her children’s sake. But, some of Kelly’s most vulnerable and devastating lyrics are… still vague as hell. All of Sober, her magnum opus, is very open to interpretation and undescriptive in terms of painting a specific image or describing the exact circumstances that was its inspiration. But the lyrics are so emotionally rich that you fall into the lyrics and its production.

While I really like IHL, I don’t feel that for any song on chemistry thus far. I felt that way about Merry Christmas To The One I Used To Know. That’s one of her best songs of all time, IMO. It’s about her divorce and it’s just so emotionally rich. So, I don’t think it’s fair to say, “You just want rehashes of SUBG.” No, SUBG is a great song but it’s an impersonal pop banger. I don’t want that. I want vulnerability similar to songs she put out on WCCA, just not as a Christmas song.

I think that Me is like two sides of a coin, lyrically. As you said, the chorus is generic af, the only thing that makes it interesting (lyrically) are the references to older songs (PBP and Maybe), although it's ofc a question if it ain't us fans reading too much into the lyrics. Anyway, on the other hand, some parts of the songs (second half of second verse and the changed final chorus) seem very specific.

As for emotions, I feel like Mine, Me and IHL have more emotions than anything that put out since, idk, MD (minus some songs here and there)

I disagree. To each their own, of course. But I personally think countless songs evoke more emotion. Piece By Piece, Tightrope, Winter Dreams, Merry Christmas (TTOIUTK), Blessed, Someone, Save You, Already Gone, You Love Me, etc. all just feel so much more rich emotionally to me than anything from chemistry thus far.

hmm based on this I feel Skip this Part (has a lot of emotion, there's a reason Kelly had to re-start this song like 3 times I think live at the belasco) , Rock Hudson (a breakaway album type mix with pxp) & lighthouse (tightrope vibes) may be your favorites, I'm perched to know haha!

Fully obsessed with this song, 100% should’ve been on the initial double a release

I Hate Love is kind of tying the album together for me. Mine, Me, and FKOH really did sound like they could have been on separate albums, IHL bridges that gap (although Me is still a bit of an outlier).

The benefit of the weekly releases has been that there seems to be something for everyone

I Hate Love is a delight but I'd still place it dead last tbh :sistrens:

I really love mine, fkoh, &ihl but I really don’t like me

If mine wasn’t released as a single, it would have gone down as one of the best Kelly album tracks ever.

it’s a great song and makes me feel sad that it’s been watered down by people not thinking it sounds like a lead single.

I think it’s the perfect indication of what the album represents.

About 200k, sorry been at a festival so didn’t update :(

206k I think to be precise, so around what was predicted based on partial day numbers, and unfortunately it doesn’t seem to have benefitted much from the other thing I predicted haha

guetta remix of FKOH outstreamed the album version yesterday. Very curious where it’s picking up most of its streams

Oh don’t apologize you’re fine!  Was just curious my. I feel like 200K for her fourth promo single isn’t that bad.

Guetta remix is so lifeless, I bet that’s why it’s connecting with listeners. :coffee2:

I wouldn’t be surprised if it charts eventually.

It's probably the one remix that didn't add anything to it. Strange since a lot of her previous singles had some pretty good remixes. :gaycat6:
