She'll probably go into the first studio sessions for it this year, but don't expect anything DL4 related until 2026 at the earliest. She spends a long time writing herself into the sound and vibe for an album before she really gets into the groove of it tbh
Virgos Groove Posted January 24 Posted January 24 I didn't get as much play out of RO as I wanted to, but Happy for You is still a late-90s-inspired MASTERPIECE that deserved to spend 20 weeks at #1 on the non-existent European Hot 100. 2

I feel like there's lowkey a mess at Warner, the budget cut this era, the fact it had only 3 singles and she hasn't been active in so long, something is definitely going on

They simply had way too much competition this time around. They probably just want the tour to be finished because it's the only lucrative thing left for this era. She really really needs to go back to a more commercial sound for her next era. She got her Tame Impala fantasy now. Time to get back to WORK.

She'd just smashed with DTN and used some of her comeback hype imo which made it hard to situate her new work/sound with her audience because the tail end of DTN had just happened. Then bad timing with I/P, other girls came hard and she couldn't keep up. A feature on brat would've worked in her favour tbh, I wonder if that was ever an option. Glastonbury gave her well earned praise but you're right that they're probably trying to recoup some of the losses on the budget for this era with the tour and want to move. It's a shame they're probably never going to do an interview about their behind the scenes decisions like they did at the start of this era since this flopped because I would've loved to hear what the reaction was to this campaign. 21 minutes ago, Cain said: The thing is that we didn't the fact a Tame Impala produced album could've been so major (and we all thought it was going to be) and then she released that beach resort background music I think she could've had her After Hours/Anti/Late Night Feelings moment with working with them but she needed a vision for it before starting the sessions. She seemed weirdly resistant to continuing with disco/funk in the Oscar campaign interviews when she described RO and tried to make this album into something that it wasn't. So we got her Joanne produced by Kevin instead.

Houdini is still SOTY and I adore a lot of songs on RO, but it's potential was muuuuch bigger than the end result, I agree. 47 minutes ago, storminthedark said: The era started out of sync with where her career was. Yeah and imo the pandemic is also to blame for this because had she toured during 2020-2021 we probably would have gotten RO sooner, and the rollout might have not coincided with Barbie, she might not even have done Barbie at all. With the current timeline it would have made much more sense to have started the rollout in Feb' 24. Also with the original Training Season video. It fucks me up that we'll never know what that looked like.. I really hope it L-words some day

The only 2 songs that did good and are having good longevity are Houdini and TS which were the only songs on RO that sound sophisticated and darker. If anything she needs to double down and deliver something different and exciting. That's what everyone expected from her after FN anyway. Something commercial and calculated again is gonna be the final nail in the coffin and send her straight to the sample and DJ collab hell where Ava is residing. 1 2
katara Posted January 25 Posted January 25 I also fear the Jennie collab is gonna be awful and go nowhere 1
katara Posted January 25 Posted January 25 (edited) Also this myth that multiple artists cannot smash at the same time is so overdone. RO would have flopped even with no one releasing. The GP was simply not here for it. Similarly FN smashed despite having lots of competion from The Weeknd, Doja Cat and Olivia who scored hits after hits. If the material connects then it's gonna be a hit regardless. Edited January 25 by katara

Ivan_brit Posted January 26 Posted January 26 I need RO deluxe to drop arround the Brit Awards.... its will be perfect time just in time for a Brits Performance & the RO tour 2nf leg, also its time for her to announce Latin America dates. Relese the deluxe either the 21 or 28th of February!!!
YouSmellLikeHospital Posted January 26 Posted January 26 I wish they would release the original big budget Training Season music video
J-esper Posted January 27 Posted January 27 I wouldn't mind if she has a collab with a DJ like One Kiss and a few droplets/collabs for this year, and launch a new album campagne later half of the year. I do think RO deserved more, I feel they completely dropped the ball in the UK and Europe and think These Walls especially could have been a nice top 10 for her. But at this point, I am just ready for the tour, I am following her around for the Europe/UK leg, bring me joy Dua
Augmented Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Apparently the Shuggie Bain A24/BBC adaptation might be coming this year, I know she ruled herself out of acting in it but I wonder if she might end up doing some music for it?
