Is dirtier, more synthpop-electropop-like than anything from FN. I would say this is a risky choice for the first single, but the bridge is :flame:

If she gonna go the 80´s synth-pop/rock-electro way then the "state of mind" impact is more real than just a font LOL

Would you say there is any kind of similarity to this? At least in terms of the "dirty" sound.

I love the aesthetic so far :jonny5: I expected her to go a more minimalist route after the very maximalist FN, so it's quite in line with the vibe I was predicting. Interesting that there isn't really any 70's psychedelia theme yet since that was teased

Psychedelia could still be in it. She teased a more lyrical theme than a sonical theme (with still a few elements here and there to bring the album together)

that NBT song that apparently sounds similar to Houdini is giving me dawnfm/after hours vibes - which I hope isn’t true as I feel that would be a regression for dua given that sound kinda just had its moment

What are some of lyrics? Does she say 'Houdini' at all in the lyrics?

Same it is incredible! If we get even an element of that it will be a collapse.

I want her to change the pop landscape again  I appreciate her trying different genres but if it turns out to be true it feels a bit safe. I’m sure it’ll be a bop all the same though and I’ll switch like a *** once it’s out

I don't know how safe it is though, Dawn FM for example wasn't quite a roaring success despite how much it was acclaimed.

I think it was also because it was released too soon, singles from AfterHours were everywhere, there were no time to breathe and build up any expectation.

I don't think he also delivered on the promotional and visual angle. The videos were nice and all but it was all quite messy.

Dua hasn't explored that sound herself personally, so for her you could argue it isn't "safe", but in terms of what is/was hot in pop, the sound was already kinda defined by the Weeknd in the last few years. Will it be a bop? Undoubtedly! Just personally would want her to try something else that kinda breaks the soundscape rather than fits in it, as it is, generally speaking, a little stale.

Popmusic said it's risky so it can't be a Sacrifice / The Weeknd sound clone
