It sounds pretty elementary, especially with the added context of songs like MOVE, Already, Water, My Power, and even Grown Woman. A post Black Parade/MY HOUSE Bey would approach that song entirely differently, and for that reason it's hard to revisit. I'm about to piss some ppl off with what I'm about to post after this teams meeting
50thStateofMind Posted January 15 Posted January 15 not reading through pages of your rankings but if you don't have DIL and IASF in the last two spots, rethink your life. 1 2
holyground13 Posted January 15 Posted January 15 A potentially controversial opinion about Beyoncé (2013) Spoiler It's a great album but I don't really like Pretty Hurts, and then No Angel, Jealous, Superpower (especially this one) and Heaven don't quite live up to the potential they had in my opinion. But the rest is fantastic and little me was obsessed with the sonic musical direction and the colourful visuals. I also adore Blue which I rarely see praised. 1 1

Blue is such a lovely sing and the lil' bossa nova in the instrumental plus the brazilian scenary on the music video makes it one of my fave on that record, a solid top 5 for me 2 2
Kristie Kuwa Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Blue has aged SO well imho. I've recently rediscovered it and honestly it's Top5 on ST 4 3

The genre-bending / fusions, the sonic palettes, the vocals, the energy etc. are unreal - especially on Ya Ya onwards in my opinion. But I could also see why people prefer self-titled and Lemonade - they're arguably tighter. Cowboy Carter's length both works for it and against it in my opinion. 1 1

And I agree it's probably in my self-titled top 5 too.

That doesn't mean the song doesn't sound like it was meant to go straight on a Kidz Bop album 1

I've heard some people say the Renaissance lyrics aren't too good either but I love them and I think they work excellently in context. 1
ShouldersSideways Posted January 15 Posted January 15 It's hard to rank Bey albums because she gets better as an artist with every single one. CC isn't my favorite, but you can't deny the vocals or the musicianship. I'd actually wager we're the only fanbase that isn't constantly pining for our fave to go back to an old sound 4 1 1

Yeah I obviously love the Fela Kuti influence on it and maybe if it was longer with more instrumentation, like a lot of Fela Kuti's songs, I would appreciate it more. I love that Beyoncé is open to orchestras and guitar solos (PYCM, Bodyguard, etc.) and I can't wait to one day have an 8+ minute song from her where she's just letting a band do its thing. We might just get one like it on act iii
Kristie Kuwa Posted January 15 Posted January 15 I honestly barely listen to Blow since Renaissance came out. The Disco-inspired songs on Rennie literally blow Blow out of the water to the point where Blow feels empty to me
sillycilla Posted January 15 Posted January 15 There is a reason why hive should not do rankings and the last few pages prove that. Just listen to the music like bey said.
LVP Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Lemonade > B'Day > Renaissance > Beyonce > 4 > Cowboy Carter > I Am > Dangeroulsy In Love
ShouldersSideways Posted January 15 Posted January 15 All I know is Renaissance is #1. Put that album on and next thing you know you've listened to the entire thing. There are very few albums by anyone I can do that with, with the frequency I listen to it. 4 1
Mitsouko Posted January 15 Posted January 15 I want this kind of electroid funkation from Neck next album I mean... Spoiler
