Exactly. I remember Mariah once said, and it's always stuck with me, that the Grammys used to be about the actual quality of the music, but they seem to have changed it now where it's about what the 'bigger' or 'more popular' album is.

I'm actually gonna push back on this. The Grammys don't reward quality or success, they reward whoever most appeals to their voting blocks (read: safe, boomer-friendly music by usually white musicians).

For example: When Adele won over Bey, the argument was that, despite Lemonade being acclaimed, 25 sold a lot more. But when Beck won over Bey, the argument was that, although ST sold much more, he was a "real" musician.

Mic The Snare had a great video on this that explains the voting proccess in detail. That whole academy is out of touch with modern music and has been for ages.

I know we've talked more than enough about that lady here, but her having 4 AOTYs (potentially 5) when people like Bey, Kendrick or Prince have none is ridiculous. Hell, even The Beatles, a band of white British rockers (a.k.a. the stuff the academy loves), only have 1. :deadbanana4:

The Beyhive singing along to American Requiem on tour is going to give these vibes for sure, I get chills thinking about it :duca:

Was it ever confirmed that there was a Target bonus track? Apart from the below I haven't seen it reported anywhere else.

I'm pretty sure this 'screenshot' is edited though as the webpage itself was never live as far as I know.

Personally I think this fanpage has fooled people.

Because TikTok is literally the anthesis of her brand. The platform is supposed to be 100% natural and genuine (presentation wise, ofc those "genuine" moments are carefully planned out). Bey is coming on there posting her dated very obviously thought out Flipagrams which is a complete turn off to the TikTok audience.

That video she posted on Instagram of her trying out the perfume (which side note can't even remember the name of :rip:) is the PERFECT TikTok formula yet ironically wasn't uploaded there. They should've replicated that concept with a video of her unboxing the Cowboy Carter vinyl with brief comments on what the album means to her. Would have 100000x the impact of any of her stupid billboards and airplane banners.

OK....all the stars should hire you to manage them, since you clearly have the credentials to do so.

This isn't the witty gotcha "expert with no expertise!!1!1!!!!!!" you think it is.

A fourth grader could do a better job at handling Bey's marketing/promotion than Bey/Parkwood themselves are right now.

It's the way he was never in the conversations and then he swoops in and wins. He didn't even have the "long overdue narrative"

Then Bey losing best contemporary album to Pharrell :rip:

There are just too many people who will never vote for a black artist and it's not just the old voters, some of the young ones are just as evil. Jon Batiste slipped through the cracks because he is Colbert's musician and was able to win the old white crowd over the years.

Machete is right on the money with this. Bey's content is outdated for Instagram, let alone TikTok which absolutely caters to the content Machete specified.

weird response. The credentials being that you just need to pay attention to how the **** works..? Whoever is in charge of Bey's Tik a tok doesn't understand and it shows.

….Operating a tik tok isn't rocket science if you have someone willing to invest the time.

Shaboozey's success really emphasizes SPAGHETTII being one of the most impactful songs off the album so far. She's never beating the Anne Marie allegations

Hear me out, the billboards are less about "promo" and more about aesthetic.

In both act i and act ii, there are a lot of references to the 70s/80s, both musically but also visually as well. We even saw her make fake billboards during RENAISSANCE's album rollout imagery, only for real ones to exist for COWBOY CARTER. To me, while they certainly do advertise the album, I don't think she's counting on them being great promotion, but rather choosing to use them because they harken back to a more classic form of the music industry where you related to music less because of performances or music videos, but because you actually liked the music itself.

It almost feels retro or even passé to rely on billboards as marketing vs. all the ways she could promote her work now across various social media platforms, but instead she's deliberately using something old. And this is something she did with RENAISSANCE's afro-futurism too, she looked back at the past and referenced it in a way that almost re-writes history to replace it with a version she thinks should have existed. With COWBOY CARTER that's even more the case musically, as we hear Linda Martell getting her own TV Show on the album, she situates late-night radio as an album touchpoint.
